Nick Ragsdale

Hi. I'm a 23-year-old Mexican-American from Southern California– the city of Perris. I'm about 6' tall and weigh 185 pounds, with brown eyes and hair, which I prefer to keep bald. I keep myself physically fit, and I enjoy reading books of all sorts and writing letters. I've been in prison since the age of sixteen and have had a lot of time to mature. (My current release date is 11/13/05.) I'm looking for someone to correspond with – women especially - at least to help pass this time and – if all goes well – to make an honest friend or two. I'm a pretty nice guy and easy to along with.

Hello, my name is Anselmo. I am a 33-year-old Hispanic male, convicted for an attempted murder in 1995. My release date is in 2012.
I am seeking women around my age to correspond with and help me associate myself back into society. Once we get acquainted and get to know one another, I will send a photo.

Art N. Ramirez

I am a Latino man who is looking for a friend to correspond with who can brighten up my days and put a smile on my face with your letters, cards and pictures. I was born and raised along the coast in Salinas, California. I come from a big family and remain close and in contact with them all. I have good morals and ethics and a lot of respect and consideration for people. Since being in prison I have not wasted my time and have received a Paralegal Degree, Business Law and Environmental Law Major and am also a Small Business Management major. With this newly acquired knowledge and skills, when I do parole I plan on opening a Law Related Consultant Service.

I am an adventurous man, play chess, like sports, like to read good books. Living along the coast, I like surfing. Once a shark tried to take a bite and I punched him in the nose and it swam away. That was my lucky day (smile). I also can write on just about any subject. I'm a good people person. I'm loyal, vigorous, strong, compassionate, humorous and intelligent. Always in a happy mood. I also believe each friend represents a possible world, not born until they arrive and it is only through this meeting that a new world is born. If you decide to answer my ad, feel free to ask and say whatever you like. Till then if I caught your interest, please write to me. All humans welcome.

Daniel Ramirez

I’m 40 years old and have been locked up since 1994 and have about 4 more years until I get out. It touched me to know that there are people out there that take the time to care about those of us in prison. If there is anyone who would like to get to know me, please write. I will respond honestly.
Everyone calls me Danny. I’m 5”8, 164 lbs, with brown hair and blue eyes. I am in very good shape and I have tattoos.
I’m basically looking for someone to talk to or someone who needs to talk; someone who will listen when times are tough. I’ve really never had a pen pal or someone to write for a long period of time since I’ve been down. I figure, if I don’t try it will never happen. So here I am reaching out…. I hope someone will grab on.
Take care and God Bless.

I’m the kind of friend when you’re sick I’ll be there to help you through; when your down and out, I’ll be there to grab your hand and lift you up. If you need constructive criticism, I’ll be there to set you straight. You may just need someone to sit and listen and I’ll be there for that. True and unconditional friendship – that’s what I can give.

Greetings to you in the name of God!

I would like to correspond with a pen pal, someone that likes to write, someone interested in all areas of things.
I enjoy music and movies.
I’ve been incarcerated for 12 years for a small crime, but due to the Three Strike Law, I got up with some time. But through everything I try to make the best of things through my Savior. I stay positive, make the best of things and learn from my mistakes.
So if there’s anyone out there who would appreciate getting mail, I will write and answer all letters.

Lupe Ramirez

It is of my most sincere wishes that this letter reaches it’s destination, in the hands of a beautiful lady, finding her at her best, physically and emotionally.
Now before anything else, let me thank you in advance for taking the time to read, this as well as having the interest of meeting me through this correspondence service.
Now, without further delay allow me to introduce myself. My name is Lupe Ramirez, I am 28 years old, Mexican with mid complexion, brown eyes and a shaved head. I am 5”7 and weigh 180 lbs. I’m your ordinary type of guy, but sincere, romantic and fun. I am from a small town called Salinas, the rest I’ll leave to your imagination or when permitted to exchange pictures.
My main objective is to be able to establish a line of correspondence with a young lady who has an open mind towards my circumstances and have the willingness to accompany me while I finish this little time.
I do hope the intentions of my introduction catch your interest, I will wait patiently for your response.

Take care.

Dear Ms Curious,

Yes, I begin this introduction with the hopes of arousing enough curiosity in the eyes of the reader. Hopefully you will have found the writer behind this pen as someone of interest and as someone you wouldn’t mind sharing a few thoughts with, and learning about one another.
Well before I continue allow me to introduce myself. My name is Tony and I am 36 years young. I stand at 6”1 and weigh a good 190 pounds. I am of light complexion with brown hair and brown eyes, and very proud of my Mexican Cultural Ethnicity.
A brief enlightenment regarding my current status… I am serving a 32 month term for a grand theft auto charge, But fortunately I am to be blessed with my freedom very shortly, but hopefully prior to my departure I am able to receive acknowledgment from a nice woman who enjoys a little laughter and some good conversation. Race is unimportant.
For whom decides to acknowledge me, please feel free to ask any questions and I will truthfully and honestly respond to them. Aside from my predicament I am a man with a big heart who carries himself with an abundance of respect.
I am not very good at introduction letters so please bare with me. With this said I’m going to excuse myself with the hopes of receiving a response.

Respectfully.

Willy Ramirez

My name is Willy Ramirez and I'm 25 years old, serving a sentence of 26 to life. I've been incarcerated since the age of 15 for a ‘mar 1" that I did not commit ( I would gladly explain this to you in a letter). My appeal is still pending. I want a female friend in my life to make life more tolerable. It's been a very lonely ride for me, and all that I want is the grace of a woman's friendship. I don't care about age, race, or religious views. I'm very open minded, but allow me to mention that I do appreciate a woman in her mature years. I'd like to share my thoughts and I'd like to read your's whether you're sad, happy, or you just need to share your troubles. I'm very understanding and slow to judge. Everybody needs somebody. I hope to hear from you!

My name is Antonio and I am 33 years old, from Ventura County of Oxnard. I’ve been locked up since 1995. My parole date is 2011, and I’m really looking forward to becoming someone’s friend. All ladies are more than welcome to write.
I’m pretty much down to earth, with a good open mind. I love to read, write and most of all draw. I’m good at tattooing as well. I find art is like an outlet to help me escape from escape these walls.
I hope someone out there gives me the opportunity to get to know them. I’m very respectful, kind and caring but most of all humble.
Well, if anyone out there is interested in becoming my new snail mail friend please fell free to drop me a few lines. I don’t discriminate, I think all women are beautiful.

Dewayne Randle

Although my appeal is before the 9th Circuit Court, I presently have a live sentence. I'm hoping to meet and make friends with all who are interested in real conversation. I enjoy reading law books and drawing anything that catches my eye. I was born and raised in Fresno, California. I have a 14-year-old daughter. I enjoy meeting people of all races who can share a part of there lives. I was married for 10 years, but am divorced. I haven't had a contact visit in over 7 years. I'm 37-year of age, and work out regularly to keep my head clean and to focus on something productive. I've been trying to find a college program for paralegal classes or some art classes, but without funds to pay for books or tuition, I'm just left with studying on my own. I just believe that this time should be used learning something productive that will help my appeal, or if and when I get out. Right now I could use a good friend to help me further my education as well as build a friendship because they last longer than other kinds of relationships. I really miss the beauty of the outside world and I hope and pray that God will give me a chance to see it again. But until that day I have to take this time to learn something that will enable me to be productive when I'm released. So I appreciate some friends that can understand my time of need. Thanks for just reading this.

Hello. My name is Victor Moboya Rankine, nick names ‘Colin.' I'm Jamaican by culture but raised in The Bronx, N.Y. I went to James Monroe High School. I'm from a very supportive and beautiful family. I've been incarcerated for 13 years and I have 22 months until release. I will be returning back to the N.Y. area, though I will be living in upstate New York, not in the city. I love to debate about national and international politics. I love to read non-fiction and fiction. I love to write letters because to express one's feelings and thoughts is very special. I love to play sports, basketball and soccer. I love music, from country to reggae. I'm a people person, I love everyone and I don't believe in the so-called human race, rather I believe in humanity and togetherness for all human beings. I am not taking out this ad to find romance. I want to find a good friend be it a man, woman, grandma, grandpa, just a friend. For the record, I will not ask you for any money. I'm well off in that department, so let it be known I will hold up my end when corresponding with you. Well, I hope, I've convinced someone to converse with me.

Anthony Rapisura

My name is Anthony and I am serving a 12-year sentence. I am 5”9, weighing 165 lbs, have black hair and brown eyes and my ethnicity is Mexican Filipino. I am a second termer and I’ve been down since 2004 on this term. Since then I spend my time educating myself in preparation for my parole. I like to read and play chess, I like sports and most of all I enjoy drawing and when given the opportunity I love tattooing most of all.
I have to say though; this time has helped me to recollect my thoughts in trying to better myself. I have no one on the outside anymore and even though I am strong mentally, I still yearn for some outside companionship as well as conversation. Even though life is hard, being alone makes it harder.
I just hope this letter catches an eye of a reader who is looking for what I’m looking for….a friend.

Sincerely,

Javier Raygosa

I'm a 38 year old Mexican man with brown eyes and black hair. I'm 5' 6", 150 lbs., and have a light complexion. I have to admit, I look as if I'm 10 years younger. I'm physically fit, and enjoy working out 6 days a week. Maybe that's why I don't have any stress in my life. My hobbies include drawing, writing, and reading. I have been drawing for 15 years and I have become quite accomplished. Here I do ink drawing, but if given the opportunity, I would like to take up painting. At the moment, I am learning to write non-fiction, but in general, I just like to write. My favorite subject is world history and military history. I have read many books about various subjects and I read just about anything. I feel education is important. I am self educated and I'm enrolled in college working towards a degree. I'm just not content to sit around here and not do anything useful or constructive. I was born and raised in Venice, California, which is on the beach front in the west side of Los Angeles. I am a good, trustworthy, honest, and sincere person who doesn't play mind games. I hope to find a nice, bright, honest and goal oriented woman with a nice personality and sense of humour to have some stimulating conversation with. My goal is to find a good friend that is open minded, someone I could get to know to the fullest and share good times, life stories, hopes and dreams. If our friendship happens to grow beyond friends, I would welcome a more serious relationship. I will answer all letters , so don t be shy. Write, write, write!

If you're hitting on this web site, you've found another inmate in need of company and though yes it may seem common given the predicament I'm in, you'll see a solid guy who'll give you lots of conversation that'll help us both grow to know each other. I'm funny, sincere and most of all will be very truthful with you in all things. I'll be glad to answer any questions you have.

I'm out of Fresno, California, and am Mexican American. My hobbies include drawing, reading and some studying. I am open to exchanging pictures, letters, maybe even in time, visits. I will answer all letters as soon as I receive them.

09/22/09

Greetings from where I sit. I’m not sure if you’ve ever done this before, but for me it will be a first. I can only imagine what kind of questions are running through your mind while reading this, so with that in mind let me formally introduce myself.
Hello, my name is Scottie and I’d like to tell you a little about myself. I am 40 years old from Southern California. I arrived here in Pelican Bay a few years ago on drug and weapons charges. Without question I am one of the fortunate ones around here that will eventually have the opportunity to go home… in 2016.
I am half Mexican and half White which leads me to my pastimes; reading culture endlessly. Although I identify more with my Mexican heritage, I am open minded to all. I have become deeply involved with education and fill my days with attempting to gain all I can. On the physical side, what is the mind without the body? The college courses I’m taking are preparing me for 2016, in hope of becoming a juvenile counselor and a personal trainer. It is said that the mind is a terrible thing to waste, but so is the body, and I spend my days building on both.
I heard about this pen pal program on Sister Soul’s radio station which I try to catch most Sundays. I have a passion for meaningful music and even use it at times to express myself, but we’ll save that for a future letter.
I’m not sure what to expect from this, I can only tell you what I’m hoping for, which is an opportunity to see the world in color through your eyes, listen to your thoughts and perspectives and maybe share a few of my own. Basically just good conversation from someone without an agenda and in touch with reality. With that said, I’ll thank you for the time you took to read this and hope to hear from you soon.

Alex Renteria

I'm a 33-year-old Mexicano,. born on October 21st in the City of West Los Angeles. I'm 5'7” tall and weigh 180 lbs with light brown skin, black hair and a couple of tattoos. I'm serving a 12-year sentence in solitary ( indeterminte SHU sentence) for an armed robbery. I've been behind these walls since Nov of 1999 and in October 2010, I will end this prison journey. I have 3 beautiful daughters whom I love dearly. My oldest is 16 years old, second is 14 years old, and my baby is 12. They reside with their mother and we do stay in contact. Well, my hobbies are fishing and building things out of wood, such as birdhouses, tables and shelves. I'm an animal lover and I'm educating myself to obtain a job that deals with animals, in a zioo, for example, or as a Veterinarian's Assistant. If this doesn't work out for me you will find me in a ranch scooping up horse shit (just kidding). I speak both Spanish and English fluently and my family lines come from Guadalajara, Jalisco. I have one younger brother and 2 sisters and both my parents. They too live in West LA. Half of my family is Catholic and the other half are Jehovah Witnesses.

My favorite types of music are Rancheros, Corrodes, and Oldies, yes and RAP too; I'm from the 80's. Westside. I do a good job at singing Rancheras too. To keep myself busy I start my day early, exercise 6 days a week, and read all sorts of books. I study hard every day in math and history, and I watch a bit of TV just to keep up with the news around my hometown. At this moment, I do not correspond to any friends – only family members, but you know that having a new friend in one's life is like a kid with a new bag of candy, just can't get enough.

Well I will excuse myself for now, I hope this is enough info about myself to find a new friend, now it's all up to you to make the next move, you'll be glad you met me. Take care and stay safe.

I am a 43 year old man serving 25 years to life with a parole date of 2019. I am interested in criminal and civil law, youth at risk, poverty, the justice system, spirituality, psychology, sociology, animal rights and environmental preservation. My hobbies include music, writing, poetry, sports and outdoor activities such as fishing and camping.
I enjoy meeting new people from all over the world and walks of life. I have been in prison for over 15 years and in isolation for 13. But my spirit is not broken! I continue to grow as a human being and fight the injustice that I and many others face. The state of the world is not lost on me, from corrupt politicians to global warming, all the way to poverty and class oppression. I continue to explore the human psyche and cultures. Learning about new people and places is stimulating. Sharing life experiences, views and ideas is enlightening. 10/14/09

I am 32 years old and have been locked up on this case since I was 16 years old. I’ve been here in the SHU since 1997, but have managed to use my time wisely and got my G.E.D around 2004, enrolled in the college program and recently graduated with Honors and an Associates degree in behavior and social sciences! I enjoy learning about a variety of subjects such as sociology, psychology and philosophy. I’m also a big fan of fantasy books by Robert Jordan, Terry Goodkind and the like. One of my favorite non-fiction authors is Noam Chomsky. I don’t watch much T.V, I read most of the time. I never read anything on the streets so books for me have become a constant source of nourishment and stimulus, as well as means of getting my mind away from this place. My ultimate goal is to put my AA Degree to use by being able to counsel kids in similar circumstances to mine as a kid, as well as work in the community. My passion is social issues effecting poor people.
Anyone is welcome to write, I do not discriminate on any level. I’m just looking for some stimulating conversation to the outside world, because after all, prison is a lonely place as we are cut off from family and friends as well as isolated in the SHU.

I'm one of California's many Three Strikers. I've been incarcerated for ten and a half years. My third strike is for receiving Stolen Property (a car). I was born August sixth, 1962. I'm 42 years of age, .weigh 180 lbs, stand 5' 8-1/2” tall, and I have brown eyes. I'm from a beautiful little town called Bellflower, in the County of Los Angeles. I have one child, her name is Summer Pearl Riley. She's twelve years old. She is the love of my life. At that age she's not much into writing her dad. I hear from her about three times a year. I write her twice a month.

Since I've been in prison I've given my life to Jesus Christ. It's the best thing I've ever done in my life.

Hello there! My name is Richard, friends and family call me Chito. I’m currently locked up at Pelican Bay. I am here for possession of a weapon and have a release date of 5/2011. Unfortunately I have made some mistakes in life but I strongly feel that doesn’t make us bad people at all. It so happens that I find myself short to the house and find myself in need of a friend to write to and help me pas all this free time I have. I enjoy reading, writing and spend most of my time drawing, which I can do so very well. I also enjoy listening to all types of music such as oldies, rap, old school and some punk rock! All in all I’m a cool person and if you’re interested in writing someone feel free to get at me and ask any questions you wish. So with this, you take care and I hope to hear from you soon. Louie Roa

I am 30 years of age and have been incarcerated since March of 1991 for an attempted murder. I am of Mexican descent, 5'10" in height, 175lbs. I have green eyes, light skin and short black hair. I have no facial hair as I can't grow any. I have no children and never have been married, but I love kids. I speak and write Spanish and English fluently. I've never done drugs, smoked or drunk alcohol but I enjoy eating and love candy. Some of my time I spend writing, drawing or reading. I have both my parents, one sister and seven brothers who are very caring and supportive of me. As a kid growing up I was an altar boy at my church but I was fired for being such a little menace. I believe in religion and respect everyone's point of view and beliefs. I might be describing myself as some kind of angel, but I'm not; this is just who I am on the inside because I don't pretend to be someone I'm not. Just because I'm in prison, it doesn't make me a bad, psychotic person. I'm in prison for a bad decision I made at a young age and I take full responsibility for all my bad choices. And even though life hasn't been easy behind these cold walls, I still manage to be very mellow and easy going. What I am looking for in a pen-pal is someone who's willing to give me a chance to know them, share their thoughts and friendship. Race, age, big or small is not a problem; for me friendship comes in every race. I am open to any type of amistad. Now it's up to whoever might be reading this to pick up that pen and paper. The best way to describe myself is, a self proclaimed adventurous bad boy characterized by charisma, charm, humor and spontaneity. I’m also very creative. I am 32 years old, was born in Belize and now reside in Los Angeles, CA. I’m mysterious. I’m looking for someone to share my views and thoughts with, and to further my education. I like reading and playing sports and writing music. My goal in life is to become successful and give back to the community and kids in need. I have 11 months left before I come home so hopefully we can utilize these last months to communicate and get to know one another. If you are dissatisfied and feel that there is something missing in your life, then here’s your answer…

Hello, my name is Felipe and I am a 31-year-old Mexican American who enjoys deep thought and writing, as I believe that through writing one has the opportunity to at times discover new worlds and create as they go along.
I am a practicing Buddhist of the Zen tradition, and live a life style, which helps me cultivate myself as well as those I am part of a beautiful garden of happiness with. I am a vegetarian, love to jog, work out and read. My favorite hobby is to draw or debate along with playing chess.
I also practice yoga and meditation and wish to embark in a friendship with anyone who has the genuine interest to venture outside of their world for a bit. I hope to use this opportunity to step outside of myself in hope to meet that special friend in the middle ground of our universe.
I look forward to any responses and invite anyone and everyone from all kinds of social classes, races or religions, as I believe all are a gift of love and peace and understanding.

In peace,

Have you ever just wanted someone to listen? To be a shoulder to lean on? Or just someone who would crack a joke to make you laugh when you’re feeling down? That’s what I think of and wish I had, or could be to someone. A person you can call a friend, who will offer all these things and only ask for your time and consideration in return. I’m not here to ask for anything except your friendship and what you’re comfortable sharing. Hopefully that is your time and consideration, along with the benefit of the doubt. Hopefully one day you will be comfortable calling on me as your friend. I’m not here to ask for love, life and devotion, just and open mind and a sincere heart, a true interest in corresponding and honesty. Then we can let the chips fall where they may. Maybe we can find something we both can truly be content in finding.
Why not let me be that someone, that release. I’ll await your letter..
Thank you for your time and consideration.

Michael Antonio Rochlin

I'm a 38-year-old Hispanic in need of a friend especially a woman who'd like to write and get to know me as a person. I was sentenced to five years and for two and a half years I've been doing this alone without letters or visits from family and friends.

I'm not a hardened criminal; I'm a man who's made a few mistakes in life and has learned from them. I would like to correspond with someone who could provide a little emotional support to lift my spirits and start the ball rolling towards getting back into society. I hope to hear from you in the near future. Thanks!

Mike Rodante

This is a first for me, so I am a little nervous. Having to write on the spot. It's intense, but it makes me more honest and real.

I'm just a regular guy., probably like someone you already know. I could be somebody in the gym or outdoors, in the office, or on the street, on the court, or sitting next to you in class. I'm a simple person. I don't take myself too seriously ‘cause I believe if you do, you're taking all the fun out of life. I say enjoy life, friends, your family. I'm getting preachy – sorry. But that's what I believe. I'm also a good listener and always willing to lend my ear and support.

I'm inspired by things that happen in life a lot of time, phrases in books, because I like to read whether it's a novel or suspense story. You can read a phrase that triggers a whole memory – sort of like a movie in your head. Drawing is one of my favorite things to do. I like studying foreign languages and the history of ancient and modern cultures. Every civilization has a rich history. Poetry, and art, breath the very spirit and simplicity of heart. Music is good for the soul and sports are entertaining and one of the best ways to unwind.. News and politics, world orientation, films, watching TV and keeping fit are just a few more of my interests and hobbies. I grew up in Orange County and in Los Angeles. I played sports and surfed a lot. I lived with my maternal grandparents for much of my childhood and teens. I remember the early days, memories strong enough to last a lifetime. I put my family first before everything else. Just kind of finds its place. It's always tough to talk about family because it's family. It affects me more than I can say, but in a good way that makes me smile, which partly explains my closeness.

You know, I've lived in the moment today and enjoyed each step and what it means while building – or hopefully moving toward – a friendship. A friendship we can equally enjoy being a part of. So, please keep this offer of friendship in mind. I think that friendship is a precious thing, even if it comes from an unexpected person.

Thank you for your time. But most of all for letting me speak my mind.

I am a 25 year old African American who is seeking a friendship in someone who can put my unfortunate situation to the side, will take me seriously, stay dedicated, and who’s always willing to get to know me as a person, a human of the earth and see I have a great and loving heart. Even though physical features mean nothing to me, everyone has their own unique style. So I’ll just let you know that I’m 6”4, weighing 245lbs with shoulder length hair. I’m always up for new challenges, well self motivated. I occupy my time by reading law books, books in general and working out. Well, I don’t want to give too much away. Hey there. My name is Noel and I’m looking for a pen pal.
I’m 31 years old and I’ve been serving a life sentence in this lock down program for over 11 years now, for gang related murders.
I know society sees people like me as scum, but I was just a youngster growing up in South Central Los Angeles trying to make a name for myself doing the only thing I knew how. We all make mistakes. It’s too late for regrets, all I can do now is make the best of this and take one day at a time.
I like to box, play football, basketball and martial arts. I also like to draw and paint. I spend a lot of time exercising, reading and writing and watching TV. I am very open minded and can get into any type of discussion.
I am not racist or a problem child. I welcome any and all types of people. I’m not looking for a relationship, I’m just looking for someone to share my thoughts with and theirs as well.

Harlan Romines

I'm a 34-year-old tattoo artist from Ventura in sunny, Southern California. I enjoy writing letters and poems, reading a good novel and am a sucker for ‘American Idol'. SSHH don't tell anyone! Also, I really love drawing, painting and tattooing.

I've been incarcerated sever years with about one to go. I realize to some the short time I have remaining may make some think twice about writing. The fact of the matter is I love writing no matter where I am and having a pen pal isn't just a prison thing. Having someone to write as I get closer to release and then while I'm making the transition to life ‘outside' would be a positive thing. Hopefully for you as weell. So if you can see past the ‘short time' thing and would enjoy corresponding and becoming frriends with a handsome (well, not ugly), smart (I have my G.E.D.), as well as funny (I do try), young- at-heart guy, then keep on reading.

Here are a couple things about myself. I have wide-ranging tastes. In music, for instance, I like a lot of stuff. My parents listened to country as I grew up so obviously I rebelled and took up heavy metal! Now I like just about everything as long as it's good. I like country, heavy metal, classic rock, blues, some soft rock/pop and R & B. Why like one thing when there's so much to choose from? That's how I think about most things now. Enjoy life and sample different things.

Last, but not least, let's discuss the type of person I'd like to correspond with. I'm not too picky as long as the person is a positive influence and a decent human being. It would be a plus if they really like to write and, like me, are open to new experiences. Other than that, I'd be happy to make a new friend.

So hey, pick up a pen and write me. Take care everyone.

I'm a single man of English and Mexican descent who, after 43 years, finds himself in search of something more than what I've had. After a run on the wild side, I'm now finding patience and making this time work to reassess my goals, with every hope of charting a course that better reflects the man I wish to be.

My desire is to better appreciate both the finer and simpler things of life while learning to understand the things I don't. This understanding begins with myself as I strive to express the more positive aspects of my being through my art and through sharing ideas and opinions through correspondence.

I am 35 years old, 5'11", 180lbs and Hispanic-Italian. I'm looking to find what I've lost throughout these years of incarceration; comfort, love, happiness and, most of all, laughter, in a female companion. My warmest wishes to those who chose to read this column. I'm incarcerated at the moment and have been housed in PBSP (SHU) for the past two years. I find myself seeking someone to share conversation, friendship, and if it reaches beyond that, then that's a blessing from above. I was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. My hobbies, though I only have a few, include reading, all types of sports and, most of all, I enjoy studying geography and different cultures. My personality is humorous and I have a wonderful style that's all my own. I love to have conversations about life in general and to make someone smile, especially in this day and age in the world, war, etc. Everyone could use a good laugh and smile to get through a bad day. I do not look for drugs or alcohol to solve problems, I'm very fit minded and exercise routinely. I am here as a good listener with positive feedback; please feel free to ask me any questions and I will respod honestly. So if this description warms your heart, I would like to hear from you. I may be away for the moment, but I will not allow this place to keep me from meeting a new person such as yourself. Your words are politely welcomed.

Hi, my name is Amado Junior. I am Mexican, 33 years old, 5”7, 183 lbs, black hair with hazel eyes. I get out in 2010.
I’m interested in women who take care of themselves, who have goals in life to be someone and that like to have fun, such as: camping, going to the lakes, hiking and climbing, just having fun!
As far as my hopes and what I want when I step out of here is to hopefully get a nice job and work someday. Be my own boss, have a nice house, a nice truck, a Harley (which I already have) and of course a boat. And lastly a good woman to share all that with.
Well, with that said, if you find me interesting, please do write. I will answer all letters.

I am a 48-year-old black prisoner in custody for a total of 10 years, presently under the strike law. I've been in Pelican Bay for about 7 years. I grew up in the Watts district of Los Angeles. After being involved in petty crime for years, going in and out of prison, I got a job working in construction as a scaffolder. After a few years of working in construction, I went back to doing petty crime. I was convicted for armed robbery and received a 40-year sentence, with 80% to be served. Even though I am going to be in prison the next twenty years, I am sure that I could reciprocate a good friendship. I like to watch sports, read a novel now and then, and listen to contemporary jazz. I am looking forward to corresponding with someone, especially with the thought of establishing a good friendship.

Hey, how are you? Hopefully well and that I have reached you in good spirit! As I’m sure you are aware of my current situation, I’ve been away now for a few years now, though sometimes it feels like an eternity but I still manage to find light at the end of the tunnel. This is the first time I have ever written anything like this, however in a way I find it a little comforting reaching out and the mystery of what may arise. Always a welcoming smile! Well, there is the hope that good will bless us both with friendship and meaningful conversation. Now before I continue, let me describe a bit about myself…I am 32 years of age, Mexican, from a little city called Salinas where the grass grows high and bright with patched fields and ocean sunrises. I love to read books, literature, history and poetry. Writing is always a pleasure as well, learning about and meeting new people. We are all gifts with promise and hopefully I can be just that.

I've been in Pelican Bay's SHU since 1999 – doing two life sentences - unjustly, I believe. I have no correspondents and no one in my life except my mother in San Diego.
A sentence of this length was something to face at the age of 21 (I'm 29 now). As bad as it feels, I keep myself busy and truly enjoy drawing. I'm really good at it too. I'll study anything I can, have a real good sense of humor and am easy to get along with. I like exercising too. I'm hoping to correspond with anybody – male or female – since the only thing I'm looking for is the lasting satisfaction of friendship.

I'm not looking for a love connection. Just for someone who is willing to write and keep me informed about the outside world. Someone who has a good sense of humor and enjoys education. I've been incarcerated since May 1992, and at 40 years of age, I've learned to educate myself. I enjoy reading, history, law, government, art and drawing. Although my resources are very limited, I do what I can. At the moment, I'm taking a basic Math course that this prison is offering. Things like this keep my mind busy and I'm beginning to really enjoy math, especially algebra. It is my sincere hope to be a ble to receive a pen pal. Now ladies, please pardon my intrusion for if but a moment of your time. Please sit back and relax as I pour forth my spill, rather thick but yet evenly all over you. For I have a confession to make, something sweet to tell you all.
My birth given name is Emil Santa Lucia and I am black, Puerto Rican and Filipino. I was born under that zodiac sign, the freak Gemini. I am art carved, light caramel coated, candy dipped and rather courageous. I am single and a ‘real man’. I am able to get you high inside, be to a real woman what a whisper does for a word.
I am 5”8, 200 lbs with light brown eyes. I used to have a super long Lord Jesus perm but now I’m rocking the sexy bald head with the deep waves. I also have a front gold tooth with a quarter karat diamond in it. I’m from that Playa California City of the Bay, San Francisco. I am strong mentally, physically and spiritually. God has truly blessed me with every muscle in a mans body to attract every woman’s attention. I promise you will not be disappointed!
I have been incarcerated now for over 18 years for trying to defend myself and what’s mine. Some dope fiend haters thought they could just take, take, take.

Abdul Olugbala Shakur

I I've been in solitary confinement for the past 21 years but, during this period, have written a number of theses on criminology from a black prisoner's perspective. In the early 1990's a number of these essays were combined into pamphlets that some law schools and criminology professors shared with their classes. In 1998, I started to combine my pamphlets in to a New Afrikan Criminology 101 textbook, which I am presently revising. Assistance and proofreading and printing would be deeply appreciated.

In addition, I am active with the Marcus Garvey Study Group (MGSG) which has four primary objectives: 1. To eradicate functional illiteracy among black prisoners; 2. To eradicate cultural ignorance among black prisoners; 3. To eradicate the criminal mentality among black prisoners and 4. To transfer the entire U.S. prison-industrial-slave-complex into the largest university in the country: George Jackson University (GJU).

Dear reader,
My name is Vernon Shaw. I have been incarcerated since July of 2001. I’m a Stockton, California native but I’ve been to a few places in my time. Unfortunately I still have a little sail time to do… Life is totally unpredictable. One minute I was living it up and the next minute it all came crumbling down. But I believe that everything happens for a reason. This situation has taught me a lot about life, friendship and loyalty. Through these years all my friends have all but blown in the wind. Hopefully by joining this pen pal service I will find a genuine friend. Someone who knows how it feels to be let down by so called loved ones. I’m in search of something real, honest and 100% sincere. If you have boring and lonely days, I’m sure it would do us both good to share our fantasies, goals, views, thoughts and feelings with each other. I’m not a superficial person, race age and weight is unimportant. I measure a person’s worth by his or her characteristics and personality. We’re all equal in our own unique ways.
I enjoy reading, writing and playing sports, but my favorite thing to do in this world is to fish. I watch a little bit of T.V to stay up to date in the political world, but most of all I usually watch movies of all kinds.
This is my earnest attempt to reach out beyond these walls and connect with somebody open minded and warm hearted. I hope you accept my warm appeal for friendly correspondence. You never know when you’ll find something rewarding until you take a chance.

I believe in friendships that are sincere and honest. I enjoy sharing ideas and listening to other peoples' unique stories and experiences. I believe that each individual is unique, gifted and good, despite the ups and downs or even the mistakes we all make in life. I also believe that our mistakes, as well as those of others who around us, can be helpful to us if we learn from them as we strive on in life's journey. One important thing I've learned is to treat others as one wishes to be treated, along with being patient and working hard to be successful in what one really wants to achieve. I enjoy working out as being part of my physical and mental exercises. Other times I like studying, reading and drawing. Feel free to write if you wish to. I'm always looking forward to meeting new friends.

I am a prisoner at Pelican Bay State Prison doing 22 years for manslaughter. I am looking for an honest sweet woman (18-35), so that we could share some letters, thoughts and many more things. I am 20 years of age. I come from a Hispanic family in Visalia California. I have been in and out of jail since I was 14 years and I’ve decided that it’s time for me to calm down. I would really like to get to know a woman who could appreciate a good friendship with me. Anyone who might be interested could write to me at the following address.

Rudy Simental

I am a 30-year-old Mexican who is looking for a friend to correspond with. I am serving a long prison sentence for murder – 25 to life – so I have a long time until I get out. Currently I'm in SHU (solitary) so I spend these days in a cell exercising, reading, writing and watching TV. I do have a G.E.D. and did attend college for Electrical Technology prior to my incarceration in 1993. I hope to find someone who's willing to keep me company and share such interests as history, languages and government. Anything that promotes growth interests me.

Shaun Simpson

My name is Shaun Simpson, I’m 33 years old and I’m African American. I’m looking to explore my platonic thoughts with any woman regardless of her ethnic background. I truly feel that I have something to offer people, mentally and spiritually. I am interested in finding someone who enjoys life, is free spirited, loves God and respects herself as a woman and will not settle for less, and also loves to read poetry. She doesn’t have to have all these attributes, but at least one of them. That will place my heart at ease!
Well, I have closed this letter with a poem I wrote. I hope all the women like it.

As men and women go on their own odyssey only to be followed by others,
That follow their footprints they leave behind despite their trail that is impossible to miss,
Due to the smoke that is blazing in the air from the ground that left ornaments that depict the time of the events when the journey occurred,
Which gave archeologists the clues hey need to study from the fossils that were uplifted from the sacred earth,
That give rise to the imagination for human beings can discover,
The difference from all walks of life!
It’s unbelievable to fathom existing without odyssey.

Frederick Wayne Smith

D.O.B. 4-4-58, age 47, 6'. I have been incarcerated since Dec 18, 1981 for a murder/robbery I did not commit and I do not know who committed said crime. I am actually innocent and can prove factual innocence with a proper investigation team. I am self-educated in criminal corporate and civil law. I am a certified Para Legal. I want to open a Law Firm for helping the innocent (Paralegal/Investigations), and my case, with help, can prove factual innocence and I give half of my setttlement (for being locked up for nothing) to the people who help me. I want help to ascertain my freedom from anyone but would simply enjoy having a pen pal to dispute law, politics, history and talk about religious subjects. I speak Swahili, Arabic, Spanish and a little French ... and I've mastered Hatha Yoga (been doing it for 16 years). I am in SHU alone against the haters of one's that know ‘self' and how to say ‘no'.

I write these her words with much admiration, respect and great hopes of finding a good friend.
My name is John and I’m African American, 27 years old, 6’2” in height and I’m dark skinned. I have around 4 years left behind these walls before I return to the free world. I would love to find a trustworthy friend with a positive head on her shoulders. Someone who’s willing and able to share a little of their time and world, if not a lot. Race is of no concern to me. Writing is something I enjoy doing so please fell free to express yourself as much as you feel the need.
I’m very laid back and easy to get along with. As of right now my hobbies are limited to working out, drawing, reading, going to school every day for my trade in Auto Body, and I’m also a tattoo artist. I’m very talented in more ways than one, but cars are one of my passions. I love animals and travelling is on my to do list.
I hope that my brief profile of myself is enough to give some special lady a little insight of my character. If I am fortunate enough to receive an envelope with your name and address to myself, it would be greatly appreciated if you could include a photo of yourself, if that’s not asking too much.
Take care and God bless,
Sincerely,

Hello, and thank you for being curious and open minded. My name is Eric and I am36 years old. I am white with blue eyes and brown hair, 6 feet tall and 178 lbs. I am from a small Californian town, very easy going with a good sense of humor. I try to keep a positive outlook on life.
I grew up in a wholesome home, never got in to trouble until I made a bad choice and robbed a local drug dealer In 2012 I’ll be blessed with a second chance. I like to keep myself busy with positive activities. Currently I am student of Ashworth University and Blackstone. I enjoy reading, writing, exercising, nature, horses and life.
I am looking to find interesting people to keep me company and to share special thoughts with a special someone as a friend, who is open minded, kind and caring and maybe wants to show me something new. I’m simply seeking a nice person to be pen pals with.

I am writing to find a pen pal on the outside, because I don’t have anyone on the outside to write to. I’m hoping that someday I will meet a special someone to make happy, because I believe that no one in the world should be sad or hurt. I know that what that special someone has in her heart, if you feel it, the two of you can live a very happy life. Like when I do my art work for people, and they send it to their families, they tell me it makes their families happy.
So if you’d like to meet your knight in shining armor, I am ready to ride my white horse and sweep you off your feet and show you the world of happiness.

Hello. I'm a 24-year-old Mexican with black hair and brown eyes – exactly 6' tall and weighing 200 pounds. I'm a lifer and I have a deep need for some interaction with a woman. It's gotten to the point that a female seems almost alien to me! I begin to forget how sweet and in touch with their feelings women can be. That's what I miss most. I'm passionate about many things and full of thoughts and opinions I'd like to share. So I'm hoping for someone with a good mind as well as a good heart. But it's heart that matters to me most.

Hello. If you’ve stopped to look at my profile, you need not look any further. By the time you’ve finished reading hopefully I’ll be the type of pen pal you’ve been looking for. So really, only read mine and no-one else’s!!! Nah, just foolin’! I’m sure there’s some awesome dudes out there who would be great pen pals but hopefully I’ll have peaked an interest by the time you’ve finished reading.
My name is Scott, I’m 40 years old. I’m from Escondido, California, in San Diego County. I’m doing a 20 to life term for an altercation gone wrong….. well I’m not sure how an altercation could’ve gone right but we’ll just stick with gone wrong, really wrong! I’ve been locked up since 1993.
I am willing to wrote to anyone, male or female, gay or straight, although I am straight myself I don’t care and it doesn’t matter to me. I’m just looking for a friend.
I’m really into the arts, particularly drawing and I’m open to discussing or collaborating with someone on some pieces. I spend my days drawing, studying Spanish (I hope to be fluent one day but if someone is more comfortable writing in Spanish, I can get along pretty well).
I truly miss my family and freedom but I only have myself to blame for that.
I have a lot to talk about and will talk about any subject, so if you’d like to drop me a line we’ll see where it goes.

I could certainly use a pen pal because I hardly get any mail at all. I am a 45 year old black man who loves the Lord but unfortunately got snagged and caught up when I got this case. I’ve been down now for 3 years with a 52 to life sentence and the reality of that alone has not kicked in yet. I’m currently on appeal with very good grounds of hope on getting my sentence reversed or extremely reduced.
I have lots of things to talk about and to share but preferably with a female. I’m asking somebody to look into your heart and to get back at me.

So if you’re a lady friend trying to speak and willing to learn, and knows that just because I’m locked up doesn’t mean I don’t know and haven’t got what it takes baby.
I’m trying to cope with this awful place. Watch when you see me, you’ll see that I really don’t belong here. But it’s cool I guess. So I’ll be waiting to hear from you. I am currently and unfortunately imprisoned in Pelican Bay's S.H.U. I have been incarcerated since the age of 17 and am now 27. Yes, my life physically has been placed on pause, so to speak, but mentally I continue forward to educate myself. It is easy for a person to lose focus in such solitary conditions- so my attempt here is to find a friend so that we can learn from one another. As you can see, I am presently locked away from the outside world and all of it’s splendors. Be that as it may, an understanding, selfless and kind hearted pen pal would really help to fill this ever present void in my life.
I am a 36 year old, open minded, down to earth man who doesn’t ask for much, other than your unreserved heart. I myself don’t have much to offer, but do know that whatever I give comes straight from my heart. Bob Tanner

I'm a 51-year-old white man and I've been alone and out-of-touch for more than 25 years. I haven't corresponded much with the outside world because I've lost most of my family since I've been in prison. I would like to change that.

I grew up in the Long Beach/San Pedro area of California. I worked for a ship supply company and as a commercial fisherman in my teens and early 20s. I love the ocean, nature, animals, and potato bugs and whoopee cushions.

I taught myself Spanish and like to read Spanish novels. I like to learn and like to try to understand why things are as they are because I am still interested in what's going on in the world.

I like rock and roll from the 60s and early 70s and country music. I am a good listener and I believe I am level headed.

I hope to hear from someone soon – perferably from a woman. At times it can take 3 to 4 weeks for mail to get passed out so you'll need to be a bit patient.

I’m 55 years old and lost my wife of 25 years in April, 2005. So I am feeling very alone in the world. I don not receive any mail here and all my family has ostracized me because I can’t seem to stabilize my life out there.
I am doing my 4th term in the California prison system. I’ve spent the last 13 months without any communication at all with the outside world. I really need a friend. This tem is tearing me apart inside. I received 4 years with 1⁄2 time eligible and parole this date next year. I’m accused of assault with a deadly weapon. It was a clear case of self defense but, because of my past record and the fact that no wit ness was willing to step forward and tell what really happened, I took the deal offered by the D.A.’s office. The worst part is that I have a second strike. I have to get my life in order and get off the streets.
I have several occupations. The last job I had was hauling produce from Washington State to southern California. My Class A license expired in 2001 and I haven’t been able to stabilize myself since in order to renew it. I also operate heavy equipment, doing land leveling, farming, etc. I was a carpenter for 10 years in my youth and am not physically able at this age to compete with the younger comer uppers. I have warehouse experience with shipping and receiving. I also have culinary skills that are exceptional. Anyway, I’m somewhat of an artist and have some sort of dream in the back of my mind to create designs for cards and then market a line all my own. I have no idea how to go about this organizing and marketing thing. But I am damn good at drawing!
I would prefer corresponding with a woman but, being the Christian I am, I’ll accept and be grateful to hear from anyone who has the time and heart to write to me. God bless.

I am A Mexican American incarcerated at California’s notorious Pelican Bay SHU. This high class hotel that I’m staying in till December 2012, sure does make me lose track of time, as the saying goes “ time sure does fly when you’re having fun”. As you can tell I have a unique sense of humor, in these places it’s needed. Anyway, I hope these few chosen words find you in the very best of health and in high spirits, because this 43 year old is doing likewise, continuously enjoying the things in my life that keep my spirit young and strong. I sure hope that whoever reads these short but humble words is trying to stay the same, positive regardless of the crisis and recession. Always remember, nothing can match the strength of those whose lives have been shaped and forced through challenging and overcoming difficulties on a daily basis. Such people always win in the end. I have learned over the years that adversity, no matter in what form, makes you stronger and wiser. It’s the best medicine for a true individual. Now I would like to extend my humble wish of having the chance to share a few words and laughs with someone.
Take care, stay strong and always look to the future with the utmost confidence. I’m down but not out, for evading arrest.

Anthony Throop

01/28/11

Greetings and salutations!
How do you do? My name is Anthony Throop and I am a 36-year-old guy from Ventura, California who’s been incarcerated since 1991 for my first (juvenile) offence, and confined in SHU for about 6 years.
I am single and have no children, which makes the solitude both easy going, and lonesome, but I’m not interested in pursuing any romances since I recently ended one. However, this isolation prevents me from meeting new friends who I can learn different things from, therefore I thoroughly enjoy such opportunities whenever they arise because I am constantly striving to with the same energetic optimism I use to make other people happy. So I would very much like to correspond with someone of any age or gender, who has intelligent and relevant opinions and ideas that will teach me fresh views about life outside.
My time is primarily spent by exercising, writing, drawing, or studying whatever I can (which is mostly Law, Chicano History and Theology), and lots of visual meditations like prayers for my release. I don’t consider myself religious anymore, although I’m a firm believer in spirituality for which I do not drink or gamble and I’ve never smoked or tried drugs in my life. Thus, I always try to an open, considerate and positive mind… except as it pertains to California’s politics, prison conditions or unjust court decisions! I have pretty much made up my mind bout such issues, in other’s words I would ditch this crazy State in a heartbeat if I could.
I am financially and emotionally secure (plenty of loved ones and supporters), so I will request nothing of you except honesty, kindness, a sense of humor and maybe the occasional photo of anything blissful and beautiful.
Until then, I anxiously anticipate my new friendship and with all sincerity I wish you a happy and fun filled summer.
Thank you for your time,

Holins Tizeno JR

I just turned 36 on January sixth. I’m black and from South Los Angeles. Over the years I have become a huge sports fan as there’s not much to really get into here. Being from La, I’m a fan of all the local teams, both college and pro. I used to really enjoy reading black literature, but only delve into on an occasional basis. Reading so much literature can leave one truly regretting the decisions that one has made in life, aside from making me a bit angry at the world itself. My music interests are mainly oldies and R&B. I used to be really into rap but there is no real content to the lyrics these days.
I’ve really got into trying to write novels of some kind. I started little more than 2 years ago and I now have a great respect for authors, in a real way.
Time has taught me a lot, not necessarily doing the time, but the opportunity that allows one to really sit back and watch people. After a while, one sees the world differently and from a whole new light. I know one thing, after a while of being around so many men, I can truly appreciate the feminine nature of women. I guess most of us like myself, are gang members of some sort, we get accustomed to living the very image that we’ve spent years trying to portray, and as a result you’d think that we are all mad at the world. Then again on some level we are, but seriously, some of us aren’t that bad. We just believe that ours is the lifestyle to live.
Anyhow, I’ll end with this. To error as you well know is human, to ignore is to slowly perish. Live and truly learn.

Fred Tuitasi

I’m a 41 year old Samoan from San Diego County. I enjoy reading books, I can gain new insights from educating myself. Learning bears fruits when it is applied. Wisdom, of course, can be pursued for it’s own sake – there is even a kind of beauty to it. I appreciate friendships, people who bring out the best in me. I’m hoping to construct a new fellowship with all of you interested in exchanging good natured conversation with me. Someone who can educate on things I don’t know, growing as friends. Feel free to write, letters will be answered promptly.
