Steven Fritzinger

I’m a 27-year-old, white and Mexican man. I’ve been in prison for 3 years, and I’ve got a few more years left, locked away in this lonely world of isolation. I like to draw, read and exercise. I’m seeking female pen pals to pass the time or to try to start a friendship.

I’m a 35-year-old African American man and I have three children. Yes, I do write my children. Unfortunately I’ve never been married, but I take great pride in the fact that I’m an important part of my kid’s life. Truthfully they keep me alive, and they keep me motivated. I don’t have a date on which I can ensure them that I will be home, and that hurts. But they know that I’m working hard on my legal issues. But to balance out my day I read (fictional works mostly), I play chess from time to time, and I’m learning how to draw. I exercise (try to anyway) at least three times a week. I am honest with my feelings so I won’t play any childish games. I am looking for a friend to correspond with. Neither age nor race matters. After all, friendships are forged over time.

I am 35 years old, 5'11", 180lbs and Hispanic-Italian. I’m looking to find what I’ve lost throughout these years of incarceration; comfort, love, happiness and, most of all, laughter, in a female companion. My warmest wishes to those who chose to read this column. I’m incarcerated at the moment and have been housed in PBSP (SHU) for the past two years. I find myself seeking someone to share conversation, friendship, and if it reaches beyond that, then that’s a blessing from above. I was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. My hobbies, though I only have a few, include reading, all types of sports and, most of all, I enjoy studying geography and different cultures. My personality is humorous and I have a wonderful style that’s all my own. I love to have conversations about life in general and to make someone smile, especially in this day and age in the world, war, etc. Everyone could use a good laugh and smile to get through a bad day. I do not look for drugs or alcohol to solve problems, I’m very fit minded and exercise routinely. I am here as a good listener with positive feedback; please feel free to ask me any questions and I will respod honestly. So if this description warms your heart, I would like to hear from you. I may be away for the moment, but I will not allow this place to keep me from meeting a new person such as yourself. Your words are politely welcomed.

I am seeking a good-hearted pen pal, mainly somebody wishing to gain a friend and start a good friendship. If any females wish to write, that would be nice, too; however I want to express the fact that my main motive is to seek a good hearted friend. I’m 39 years old, 5’7”, 175lbs, any other information you wish will be answered in my first letter to you.

I’m a 32-year-old Mexican from L.A. I’ve been here in the SHU for 2 years and I’ve been incarcerated for 10. I’m looking to correspond with anyone who’s interested in a pen pal. My only expectation is friendship and someone to correspond with until my sentence is up. I’m an open-minded person who enjoys and loves art and drawing. I’m straight forward and easy going. I read a variety of subjects, but mostly fiction. I hope to capture someone’s attention to correspond with. I promise a response to all who write and look forward to hearing from anyone who is interesting in receiving my undivided attention. Thank you.

I am 34 years old and of Mexican ancestry. My hobbies include reading (mainly non-fiction), listening to all kinds of music and playing chess. I am from the small California town of Watsonville, an hour south of San José. I have been incarcerated for approx. 4 years with 8 to go, so I’m striving to find a college that will grant me some correspondence courses so I can make good use of this time. I would love to major in psychology or philosophy. I’ve been locked up for four years on a 14-year sentence for possession and sales. I consider myself lucky since I was facing 27 to life under the 3 strikes law. Fortunately, the judge had a heart. I am really interested in meeting people from all walks of life who are willing to exchange thoughts and pleasantries, and who aren’t afraid to express themselves of share their adventures. I invite all those who are interested in building a friendship with someone who is very open-minded and easy going to write to me.

Right now I’m not corresponding with anyone other than my sister and, given the location of Pelican Bay, I do not get visits from anybody. I am single and have never been married. This ad goes to anyone who is willing to have a sincere and honest individual to write to as a friend. I'm a down-to-earth African American man, 35 years old. I'm currently serving time under the California three-strikes law for a non-violent crime, which has resulted in my receiving a rather lengthy sentence. The Legislators and District Attorneys in California and other organizations are trying to amend the Three Strikes law, to release all non-violent cases a lot sooner. So there is a chance of my sentence being reduced.

I'm looking for someone to talk with, someone to share thoughts with - yours with me, mine with you. I'm also a college student pursuing my A.A. degree, to ensure a brighter and productive future once I'm released. Prison is such a negative environment, I feel it can only be beneficial to start a correspondence with someone in the outside world. Race or creed is of no importance.

Besides studying for my degree, I also spend time reading, playing chess, exercising and listening to Jazz and R&B. If you would like to correspond with me feel free to ask anything else you would like to know. Hope to hear from you soon.

I’m a 25-year-old Mexican/Philipino. I’m seeking someone special to get to know and become friends with. Single women between the ages of 30 and 40, mature, down to earth, that have good conversation and enjoy writing. Ethnicity is not an issue. I’m currently serving a short term here in the Pelican Bay S.H.U and would just like to get to know some of you out there. Pictures are also available. Feel free to ask any questions. I hope to hear from you soon.

I’m a 27-year-old Latino from north east L.A. I’ve been in prison for 6 years of a 12 year bid I was given. I’ve been married before, but only for 2 years. I’ve been divorced for 4 years now and have a beautiful 6-year-old daughter. I dig drawing, working out, and pretty much just finding the humor in life. I don’t think there’s anything I like doing more than laughing and having a good time, regardless of who I’m with or where I am! I’m looking for someone to correspond with who will introduce me to a world unlike my own. I’ve spent the better part of my life in institutions and, well, I’d like to know more about the other things that life’s got to offer.

I am a Latino man who is looking for a friend to correspond with who can brighten up my days and put a smile on my face with your letters, cards and pictures. I was born and raised along the coast in Salinas, California. I come from a big family and remain close and in contact with them all. I have good morals and ethics and a lot of respect and consideration for people. Since being in prison I have not wasted my time and have received a Paralegal Degree, Business Law and Environmental Law Major and am also a Small Business Management major. With this newly acquired knowledge and skills, when I do parole I plan on opening a Law Related Consultant Service.

I am an adventurous man, play chess, like sports, like to read good books. Living along the coast, I like surfing. Once a shark tried to take a bite and I punched him in the nose and it swam away. That was my lucky day (smile). I also can write on just about any subject. I’m a good people person. I’m loyal, vigorous, strong, compassionate, humorous and intelligent. Always in a happy mood. I also believe each friend represents a possible world, not born until they arrive and it is only through this meeting that a new world is born. If you decide to answer my ad, feel free to ask and say whatever you like. Till then if I caught your interest, please write to me. All humans welcome.

Raul Rocha

I’m a Mexican who grew up on the streets of Los Angeles, California. I am currently serving time for a petty theft of 2 pairs of Levis and was incarcerated in 1994 under the then new 3-strikes law. I’m currently 35 years old and was only a 24 year old kid when incarcerated – never knowing in my wildest dreams I’d get 25 years for stealing two pairs of levis. But here I sit.

I’m an average man who considers himself a working stiff. I’m an artist and poet. The poetry isn’t my greatest talent, but my artwork is fairly decent. Actually, I’ve gotten great comments on my work. But, I have only my art and poetry to keep me company these days. I love to listen to music, as I practice my art, from Classic Rock to Hip Hop. I’m into most music. Among others, I love R&B, oldies and old school music..

I wish I had someone to give me the benefit of the doubt so I could have some type of contact with the outside world. My only contact is with my kids. I have 3, but only 2 of them write to me. They are 16 and 17 years old.

I’m a very passionate man who allows his emotions to show in his art and poetry. It’s my way of escaping these walls if only for a few hours a day. I also like to write what I feel in hopes the reader of my thoughts may get to feel what they read. In hopes of getting to know the man behind the pen.

I have no preferences in a pen pal, except that the person be open minded and have a sincere heart. I am searching for a kind soul interested in giving of their time and to become a friend and pen pal. I can be very good as a pen pal because I’d write you long detailed letters. I’d be happy to read whatever you want to share with me.

I’m an average man with average wants just like the next man. Only I can never express my wants and thoughts because I don’t have anyone I can call a friend. I hope that will change with you.

I’ve been in the SHU about 20 years and I’m doing life. I’m an artist and I’m fairly good at it; I’d like to hook up with someone who is also into that kind of craft or hobby, or just likes art. Another thing I’m interested in is history and all cultures. Right now I’m studying Asia, China, Korea, Vietnam and Japan, and would like to hook up with anyone with similar interests, or anyone from one of those cultures. Because I’m a lifer, I’m not looking for anything too serious, just looking to exchange thoughts and cultural differences and to pass the time.

I’m 34 years old and have been in prison 11 years now. I have about 20 more to go. I’m not good at introductions since I don’t write much. Time
has seized my faith and I’ve had my share of disappointments. But nothing comes without risks and it’s with that understanding that I find myself writing this. I was born in L.A. (January 12th is my birthday),
and raised in Culver City, California. I am one of three siblings. I have an older sister and a younger brother, which puts me in the middle (the black sheep). My time is spent reading just about anything I can get my hands on. I also spend some of my time drawing. These are my two means of escaping these halls of confinement because this place is anything but caring or understanding! I continue to educate and better
myself as a person.I will continue to fight to get out one day; you can’t accept this place. I would like to write to somebody who will be understanding, is
comfortable with b eing themselves, and isn’t afraid to take a chance on a man who’s heart has been hardened by his conditions! Permit me to enter your life and I’ll give you a friendship filled with loyalty and

Hello. My name is Victor Moboya Rankine, nick names ‘Colin.’ I’m Jamaican by culture but raised in The Bronx, N.Y. I went to James Monroe High School. I’m from a very supportive and beautiful family. I’ve been incarcerated for 13 years and I have 22 months until release. I will be returning back to the N.Y. area, though I will be living in upstate New York, not in the city. I love to debate about national and international politics. I love to read non-fiction and fiction. I love to write letters because to express one’s feelings and thoughts is very special. I love to play sports, basketball and soccer. I love music, from country to reggae. I’m a people person, I love everyone and I don’t believe in the so-called human race, rather I believe in humanity and togetherness for all human beings. I am not taking out this ad to find romance. I want to find a good friend be it a man, woman, grandma, grandpa, just a friend. For the record, I will not ask you for any money. Hello. Thanks for giving these few lines a little of your time and the chance to interest you, hopefully, in getting better acquainted. I’m a 33 year old Mexican with brown eyes and hair- I stand 5'11" and weigh
195 lbs and have a muscular build. I am currently serving a life sentence with the possibility of parole, and as the years come and go, so do friends and loved ones. The latter usually just go. Friends are
few in my life and at times I can go for months without a letter from the outside. I am not saying these things to induce pity. I’m merely enlightening you on the difficulty on doing time without friends to lighten your day. I am very interested in making new friends to share my life with and hopefully bring some happiness to their lives as well. I am also open to finding a special woman to be a little more intimate with. Once again thanks for stopping by. I realize that this is short
and gives you little insight into the man is behind the pen but, rest assured, with time and a few letters conversation will be more fluid and interesting. I hope to hear from you soon.

Harlan Romines

I’m a 34-year-old tattoo artist from Ventura in sunny, Southern California. I enjoy writing letters and poems, reading a good novel and am a sucker for ‘American Idol’. SSHH don’t tell anyone! Also, I really love drawing, painting and tattooing.

I’ve been incarcerated sever years with about one to go. I realize to some the short time I have remaining may make some think twice about writing. The fact of the matter is I love writing no matter where I am and having a pen pal isn’t just a prison thing. Having someone to write as I get closer to release and then while I’m making the transition to life ‘outside’ would be a positive thing. Hopefully for you as weell. So if you can see past the ‘short time’ thing and would enjoy corresponding and becoming frriends with a handsome (well, not ugly), smart (I have my G.E.D.), as well as funny (I do try), young- at-heart guy, then keep on reading.

Here are a couple things about myself. I have wide-ranging tastes. In music, for instance, I like a lot of stuff. My parents listened to country as I grew up so obviously I rebelled and took up heavy metal! Now I like just about everything as long as it’s good. I like country, heavy metal, classic rock, blues, some soft rock/pop and R & B. Why like one thing when there’s so much to choose from? That’s how I think about most things now. Enjoy life and sample different things.

Last, but not least, let’s discuss the type of person I’d like to correspond with. I’m not too picky as long as the person is a positive influence and a decent human being. It would be a plus if they really like to write and, like me, are open to new experiences. Other than that, I’d be happy to make a new friend.

So hey, pick up a pen and write me. Take care everyone.

Marcos E. Vigil

I am currently housed in the SHU and have been in isolation since Jan. ‘92. I am a 40- year-old Chicano/Mexicano who enjoys writing and drawing
as a way of passing my time inside this concrete jungle. Originally I am out of the Southern California area of Wilmington, and I have been inside the system since 1980. Consequently, most of my life has been
spent behind these walls. I’ve held myself together and kept my self respect about me quite well. I’m hoping to reach out beyond these walls and perhaps connect with someone out there who would be willing to
communicate with me on a level of mutual learning and growth. I am easy to relate to and open to new ideals and avenues of experience. I maintain my health and sanity quite well in here (despite the odds) and
I hope that I can be brought together with anyone who’d be willing to exchange a few interesting moments of time.

I am a 32-year-old Mexican interested in a pen pal who enjoys discussions pertaining to philosophy, history of all cultures and metaphysics and who also appreciates art and poetry. I am light skinned
with brown hair, green eyes, 5'11" in height, and my weight is 165 on a good day! I enjoy a good joke so a pen pal with a sense of humor would be a bonus. After all, someone under these circumstances could use a
laugh - it’s spiritually healthy. I’m not religious but I don’t mind a good open minded discussion on the subject. I don’t know if I’ll be out, but I’m expected to in 2008 sometime. So far I’ve been in prison going
on 14 years and I haven’t had a pen pal for at least 9 of those years. Well, I don’t want to reveal too much and I’ll leave the rest to that curious mind who wishes to be surprised.

Geronimo C. Lozano

My name is Geronimo and I am a 31 year old Mexican from Los Angeles. To be honest, prior to my incarceration, I was living the wrong way, keeping the wrong company, making the wrong choices, and doing the wrong things. During this period of my life I was associating with gangsters in California, and soon I became one of them. This was one of the worst
decisions of my life because with each passing day I became more deeply involved with crime. At the age of 21, my life of crime came to a halt.
On July 14th,1994, I was arrested and charged with several crimes, was found guilty of two of them, and sentenced to a lengthy term. All I had left was a wrecked life. But, while I’ve been incarcerated, I have been restoring my life the best I can. I have earned my G.E.D. and I plan to further my education by participating in a community college correspondence course next year. My goal is to complete the general
education requirements for an A.A. degree. I dream of one day starting my own business.
My favorite hobbies are reading, playing chess, and exercising. Basically, I consider myself to be kind, understanding, intelligent, full of personality, straightforward, down to earth, adventurous,
strong, gentle, ambitious, funny, and from what I’ve been told, a one in a million guy. But, if you would like to develop a friendship through the mail with me in order to find out for yourself, please do not hesitate to write. I want you to know that I am open to corresponding with people from all walks of life. I only hope that you are as well.

40-year old looking for pen pals, friendship, correspondence. Everyone is more than welcome to write. Age, race, gender unimportant; I will answer all.

I was born in Mexicali in 1965, but came to the U.S. in 1975. Lived in East Los Angeles, and unfortunately got arrested in 1982 when I had barely turned 17 years of age.

I love classic rock music, Spanish music, all kinds of music, especially 70;s and 80's music. I also love to study, read, write and learn new things.

creative with my hands. I am searching for a kind, open-minded woman with a great sense of humor and a beautiful personality who wouldn’t mind corresponding with a convict. I would like to build a special

Available, one large heart, slightly damaged but warm, friendly and loving. This ideal heart is found in the body of a shy, adventurous, 5' 9", physically fit, slim 25 year old gentle person with brown eyes and
dark hair. The woman I’m seeking must be open minded, gentle, sincere and fun, but serious about friendship. Age, race, and looks are not
important. What matters is a pretty and unique personality. I enjoy meeting interesting, perspicacious ladies and having fun. Before I close this brief introduction, I’d like to say that I hope it has captured
your interest and that I look forward to sharing my thoughts with you.

James M. Perez

I've been down since 1978 and I've been here in Pelican Bay;s S.H.U. since it was opened 14 years ago. Through the years I've lost most contact with the free world. I am single and have 2 grown daughters who
I hear from three times a year. I am looking for friendship (long lasting, hopefully) - just a long distance hug now and then just to know that someone out there cares. Age ,race, gender is no problem; I will
answer all. A self addressed embossed envelope will be helpful (regular stamps or regular stamped envelopes not allowed). A photo is most welcomed, but not needed. I will answer all mail and all questions.
Honesty is a must.

Juan Carlos Tachiquin

I am currently and unfortunately imprisoned in Pelican Bay's S.H.U. I have been incarcerated since the age of 17 and am now 27. Yes, my life physically has been placed on pause, so to speak, but mentally I
continue forward to educate myself. It is easy for a person to lose focus in such solitary conditions- so my attempt here is to find a friend so that we can learn from one another. For instance, I have always wondered about the origins of my last name Tachiquin. Well my dear friend, I will keep this short with hopes to find a friend. Please feel free to write.

Nythell Collins

I’m 29 years old and serving a life sentence. I’ve been here for three years and I’ve been in jail for 5 years. During that time my grandmother has passed away, the only family I had. I do have brothers, but we don’t
talk and my mother is sick so I only write to her just to see how she’s doing.

I try to read. I like books by John Grisham, James Patterson and Robert Ludlum. I try to keep a positive mind while I’m here. I’m waiting on my appeal so I pray that that goes well for me, so I can have another
chance at life. I have no children, but I wish I did. It would give me something to look forward to. I don’t get mail or visits so it can get lonely at times. I read my Bible a lot and I go to church when we’re not on lockdown, so that keeps my spirits up. I’m not in any gangs or disruptive groups. I stay to myself a lot. I’m looking for anyone who’s willing to write to someone like me. I don’t think I’m a bad person, I’m just someone who made a mistake in life. I’m from Richmond, CA., and growing up there I had to do whatever I could to survive, and so that’s how I ended up here. I love music all kinds but mostly R&B and Hip Hop. I also like to write music (raps). I’m very very good I must say.

Well I would like to thank whomever takes the time out to read this whether you chose to correspond with me or not, it’s the thought that counts. Thank you and God Bless.

I am a poet and artist according to some; just an number to others. I am 29 years old, born on 2/5/75. I’m doing an 8 year bid for sales and transportation of drugs. I am open minded and at the same time very
opinionated. If a person can keep me interested then I know it will be an awesome relationship. I’m looking for support, companionship, and respect that will come from meeting someone new. New people in my life
will help me learn new ways and understand the perspective of others. I am in a place with no feelings or emotions. I would like to share my emotions with you and hopefully you could share your’s with me. One of my interests include art. Not just drawings or paintings, but literature as well. I love a story that’s like a lover’s warm embrace or a story that will take you in and make you not want to come back. I enjoy music, from classical to today’s music, but my favorite being oldies and classic rock. I also like to draw and write. There is so much more, but if I told you everything now, what would we have to talk about when you write? Charles Kingsley

I am 26 years old and on an extended vacation here at the enchanting Pelican Bay Inn. I’m currently doing time for a robbery and drug related crime, I’ve earned myself a 12-year sentence. I’m no angel, but at the
same time, I’ve done a lot of growing up in prison. Everyone makes mistakes and some people learn the hard way. I’m trying to take responsibility for my actions. I was born on August 4, 1978 and I’m French Canadian and Native American. I’ve spent most of my life in Northern California – mostly the Bay area and Redding – but I have lived all over California. I consider myself a born-again Christian. I enjoy positive and fruitful conversations. I spend a lot of my time reading and studying. I participate in a few self-help correspondence courses. I also love to draw. I’m one of the few that have a decent education and before I was locked up, I managed a pet store. My dad is a veterinarian and my mom owns a dog grooming shop. Bottom line is, I’m looking for new friends to write to. I hope to hear from someone soon – male or female.
Who knows, maybe if you take a chance on writing to me, or someone else in prison, you might be surprised that we all have a lot in common.

I am a 26 year old, Spanish and English speaking Mexican American, born in San Jose, California. I have been incarcerated since I was 16 years old for robbery resulting in death. 7 and 1/2 of the last 10 years of my incarceration have been spent in solitary confinement. 6 and 1/2 of those years have been here in the SHU. However, through out this time, I have acquired my G.E.D., completed a 2 year paralegal course, and I am presently working on obtaining an A.A. degree. I was raised Catholic, however, I find that I have similar beliefs of many different religions.
My interests are many , but I am an artist, quite interested in the law and anything positive. I am seeking correspondence to broaden my horizons, to remind myself that there is something beyond this place, and simply for the sake of conversation. I will reply to anyone who chooses to correspond.

Wadear Cousimano

My request for correspondence is not a cry of a drowning man reaching for a little assistance. (Even though love and compassion is missing from places like this). However strange or sensitive that may seem, it is the truth. This is why I cherish letters. This is why I cherish time granted from others. This is why I'm seeking a Pen Pal. Something personal, someone I can trust, someone to share experiences/stories with. Someone I can open up to with honest feelings and trust with those secrets. I'm still a human being, and like everyone else, I still want to feel connected and loved. I can still be warm, loving, and giving. I still laugh, hurt and dream. I still like to talk, learn, and grow.

Yeah. I can still be intelligent, literate, friendly and charming. I have no kids -darn!. I prioritize family. I still enjoy music, writing, reading, sports, exercising and grasping life's knowledge. As I'm in the
process of learning the Spanish language. I'm a young 32 (9.2.72) and a kid at heart. I mean just because you might see signs of snow on the roof, by all means it doesn't mean there's no fire in the chimney. Yes, I have a sense of humor. And I always make the best of every situation. Just to wake up in the morning knowing I've met another sunrise is a true beauty/gift in itself. And having the presence of mind to look
forward to another, is all that one can ask for. All I would like is someone who can understand and appreciate that.

In short, I'm just looking for a little kindness, a friend. Someone to help ease the pain if you will and fill that void deep within. To those without, little things mean a lot. Things most people take for granted are exactly the same things that are cherished by the ones who don't have the luxury of being able to take for granted. For a lot of people, a letter is a waste of time. But when it's your only way to stay connected to the world at large, and people in general, a letter received is equivalent to a life jacket in an ocean. As people start to feel the loneliness that comes from separation and loss of contact causes, they often drown in misery. But when we have ties to a realm where time is actually devoted to them, they can float with their heads above water. Even though the times have gotten more hectic, there are still 24 hours in a day. It doesn't seem like a person's worth could be measured in time, but when you tell someone you don'' have time for them, it's saying a lot. Just as taking time to write a letter says a lot.

Don't get me wrong, I don't pretend to be an angel. However, I've used what I've gone through, what I've suffered and the suffering I've caused others as stepping stones to better myself. I've taken responsibility for who I am and what I've done. It's not sympathy I'm after, its encouragement. So I reach out for honest, courageous and kind individuals who have a sense of humor and a sense of wonder for intelligent encouraging letters to engage in insightful and thought
provoking conversation. Sharing wisdom and perspectives.

I hope this will provide you with a different view of what your letters might mean to a person like me. Because for many, kind words and understanding may be that life jacket that keeps a man from drowning.
Don't let me go under. Decide if you have time to write someone a letter and you'll know the value to you of that person, 24 hours in a day, who's worth the time a letter takes.

I’m a 32 year old white male with blond hair and green eyes. I stand 5' 8" in height and weigh 175 lbs. I’m healthy and in good shape and I come from southern California. I’m honest, very open minded, loyal, and always respectful. I enjoy good times, good people, and good conversation. I love the sunshine, so I enjoy all sorts of outdoor activities. I like the desert and the beach. My hobbies include motocross, jet skiing, camping, and all sorts of adult pleasures. I’m a
high school graduate currently enrolled in college and working on an A.A. degree. Because of my location, things are pretty dreary at times, so I’m looking for some new conversations to brighten up my days. I’m
always respectful and will reply to all.

I’ve been in the SHU for 2 years now, and will probably spend the remainder of my 6 year sentence here. I’m doing a 14 year sentence for possession of a controlled substance and possession of a firearm. I’ve
made some mistakes and bad choices in my life and now I’m paying my debt to society. I am from Coachella, which is a rural city located in the deep south of California. I’m a third generation Mexican American, born on 3/19/61. I’m 5' 4" and weigh 158 lbs., and that includes the waist chains and handcuffs! I’m short and stocky and quite fit. I have black hair and eyes, and I keep my head shaved. I enjoy reading all types of fiction and non-fiction books. I love Mexican history, American history, and political science. I’m fascinated by numbers. Math is where I excel. Right now I am waiting for some algebra geometry books from the San Diego State University. Keeping the mind occupied and the heart strong
is the key to longevity. I am an industrial - commercial - residential electrician by trade. I enjoy listening to oldies, rancheras, cumbias, and some rap. I enjoy fishing, hunting, and visits to Las Vegas. I am
interested in finding a woman to write to who shares similar interests.

I'm looking for correspondence with interesting and reliable people. Let me tell you a litte about myself. I'm a black man from Long Beach, interested in fishing, bike riding, listening to music - rap, R&B,
oldies. I like taking walks on the beach, and watching the sun set. I like the outdoors - nature flowers, trees, football. I don't have any family, or anyone at all writing to me. I like to watch basketball and tennis. I'm feeling lonely and abandoned. I need someone who's going to be real, trustworthy, and truthful. I need someone who's going to be there in time of need, someone to talk to and be able to let them know
what's on my mind, someone to be real and honest. I've been locked up for 5 years and have 19 more to go. I'm looking for a continuing correspondence, but let's at least make a beginning.

exercising and staying healthy, both physically and mentally. I am pretty much covered in tattoos and I am a tattoo artist, so I like to draw. I like to read anything and everything. I am fascinated by the world and the never ending knowledge that is contained in it. I have
been incarcerated since April of 1995. I was 16 years old when I stepped into doing time. I have spent a good portion of my life caged up, and I am looking forward to my release in 16 months. I would like to correspond with females just to help pass the time.

I am a 28-year-old man out of Fresno CA who’s been incarcerated for the last ten years. Over time, one loses contact with the outside world. Kind of like out of sight out of mind. I am interested in corresponding with anyone willing to help this time go by a little easier. I have a lot of dreams and aspirations that I hope to one day accomplish, but due to my situation they sometimes seem to be a lost cause. I know that if I had someone willing to listen to these dreams and aspirations, and help make them a reality, things would start to look up – maybe for both of us.

I am 36, SPV (single poetic vegetarian), a certified paralegal, writer, and student of yoga and meditation. I’m 5' 10", 190 lbs., and of African and Native American heritage. My eyes are the color of brandy and cinnamon. I have fathered no children (though I would love to be a father) and I have never married. At this moment I can honestly say I am emotionally, mentally, and spiritually ready to share in the harmony of friendship. I spend most of my time reading, writing, exercising, meditating and dreaming. Currently I am studying women’s studies and constitutional law. For the last 36 months I have been in the SHU. I
have no family and no friends, no letters, no cards, nothing. I have to say that my best is my love of communication and loyalty. I do not smoke, nor do I have any drug or alcohol history. I enjoy jazz and
soulful music, blues, country, and some reggae. I love to hear myself sing! I enjoy crazy laughter, romantic movies, books, and sunsets. I love to camp, hike and fish. I am a child of the Bay Area in northern
California. I am addicted to anything apple flavored (pie, candy, juice, waffles) and I crave intellectual stimulation. I would like to write to a woman between the ages of 21 and 50. Race, and religion are not an

At the age of 30 it has become apparent to me that one cannot walk a fine line for any significant time without having a stumble or two. I would be easy to blame my incarceration on a dysfunctional family, but the truth is that I come from a wonderful home. My parents worked hard to provide for me, they instilled values not only with words but by example. Maybe the blame should fall on the notorious city of Los Angeles where I was born and raised? Or, the vicious gangs that it’s
known for? I wish that it was that easy, but L.A. has been good to the Flores family. My incarceration is not due to not having goals. I wanted to play professional baseball or football, and many thought I had i .
I wanted to attend college, get married, have kids and be able to provide for them. It’s proof that one should be careful of what one wishes for! I played semi-pro baseball until I got hurt. I had to come to prison to take college courses. I got married to a beautiful woman at the age of 20, and had 3 wonderful kids, who are my reason for living. It took several break - ups to realize that she was not for me. So, who can I blame for being placed in prison with a 15 year sentence (9 of
which I have done)? The answer is me. I am responsible for everything that happens to me and that is why I am trying to use my incarceration to better myself. Education is my priority, along with creating an
opportunities for myself so that when I return to the real world I can be significant in society and be a representative of the Flores family that my kids can be proud of. I understand that in my quest I need
mentors, counsellors, and friends and most of all conviction. If you are touched by anything I have said I encourage you to drop me a line and I will surely reply.

I am 23 years old and am doing a large sum of time. As I do my time, I serve it in solitary confinement and have no friends or family who write to me. I really don't know what to say, so I'm going to be honest and
hope that the following will be of interest to you.

I want you to know that I am an open-minded person who welcomes anyone to write. I am seeking someone who I can share my thoughts and ideas with. I am looking to make friends to correspond with. Though a person who has a lot to say, I am also a good listener and would like to hear what you have to say. This is not just about me.

I am love to learn new things. I am interested in art, music and many other educational things and I love to draw and paint. I am a very open-minded person who has lived and spent time in Southern California and the Southern United States. I like all sorts of music, from
classical to country to heavy metal. I love animals too. I like a lot of things about the European, Asian and Latino cultures. So if any of this is of interest to you, please do write. I will write back anyone who takes the time to write me. Don't think twice, just pick up that pen!

I am 30 years of age and have been incarcerated since March of 1991 for an attempted murder. I am of Mexican descent, 5'10" in height, 175lbs. I have green eyes, light skin and short black hair. I have no facial hair as I can’t grow any. I have no children and never have been married, but I love kids. I speak and write Spanish and English fluently. I’ve never done drugs, smoked or drunk alcohol but I enjoy eating and love candy. Some of my time I spend writing, drawing or reading. I have both my parents, one sister and seven brothers who are very caring and supportive of me. As a kid growing up I was an altar boy at my church but I was fired for being such a little menace. I believe in religion and respect everyone’s point of view and beliefs. I might be describing myself as some kind of angel, but I’m not; this is just who I am on the inside because I don’t pretend to be someone I’m not. Just because I’m in prison, it doesn’t make me a bad, psychotic person. I’m in prison for a bad decision I made at a young age and I take full responsibility for all my bad choices. And even though life hasn’t been easy behind these cold walls, I still manage to be very mellow and easy going. What I am looking
for in a pen-pal is someone who’s willing to give me a chance to know them, share their thoughts and friendship. Race, age, big or small is not a problem; for me friendship comes in every race. I am open to any type of amistad. Now it’s up to whoever might be reading this to pick up that pen and paper. I’ll be waiting.

I am a poet and an artist, but according to some, I’m just a #J05269. I’m 29, born on 2/5/75. I’m doing an 8 year bid for the sale and transportation of drugs. I’m open minded and at the same time, a very opinionated, strong-minded man. I’m interested in being interested. If a person can keep me going then I know it will be an awesome relationship. Not exactly looking for love, but support, companionship and respect that will come from meeting someone new. The latter is the most important to me. Meeting new people, learning new ways, understanding new perspectives is what I want to do. In some way, gaining knowledge and wisdom are things that a new friendship will shed light on. I am in a place with no feeling, no emotion. I want to share mine with you and hopefully get the chance for you to share yours with me. My goals are simple. I want to educate myself and become a better person. In some way I’ve yet to figure out, I’d like to help others smile. Somehow, I just want to make a positive difference in someone’s life. Since you’ve read this far, I’m hoping it’s you. Besides being interested in being interested, my interests include art, literature, poetry, plays and great books by great men who tell a story so well that it’s like a lover’s warm embrace or a story that will take you there and make you not want to come back. I love paintings and music, from classical to today’s music, but my favorite is oldies. I also draw and write. There is so much more to say, but if I told everything now, what would we have to talk about when you do write? I’m out-going and very active, always with a positive outlook on life, so please, no sour pusses.

Hello and very nice to meet you. I hope when you read this that it will find you, and all of your loved ones, in the best of health and always in happy spirits.

I’m Mexican-American and was born on February 5, 1966 in Los Angeles, Cal. That’s where I spent the happiest 18 years of my life. I have black hair and brown eyes and sport a mustache. I do shave it off just to see if I still look young (smile). Do I? Still look young? Well some say I look younger with my mustache. Ha. Ha.

I’ve been incarcerated for almost 21 years, but I still keep hope alive that one day they’ll let me go home. What did I do? Well, I was convicted of a crime Ididn’t do. It’s a long and sad story, which I wouldn’t mind sharing with anyone.

I love to play sports and watch them on television. I’ve been playing sports since I was 6 years young. I also play chess almost everyday - how else am I going to get better, right” I wouldn’t mind teaching and
becoming a counselor when they let me go home. I love to read, my favorite subject has to be history, but I also like philosophy, science, politics and I just got into child development. My cousin Monica went to
college and that’s what she took, and so I thought to myself, I was once a kid myself, and why do we act the way we do? I would really like to help our kids who are having a very hard time with everyday life.

Well feel free to ask me whatever you like, I really have nothing to hide. I’m willing to share my life experiences, the little wisdom I possess, and most importantly my friendship. Anyway, I’m really looking
forward in making a new friendship. Just be yourself (smile).

Good day to all. I'm s 39-year-old white man ofaverage height and weight, with blue eyes. I'll be 40 nextmonth. At the moment, I receive no mail and have only myself to occupy my time. Letters would be highly appreciated and all will be answered. I was born and raised in the Napa Valley, but have lived all over. I'm currently here for failure to appear and received 6 years with 80%. My past record isn't too good, which is the reason I received so much time. All my crimes are property related and I've never hurt anyone physically.

Both my parents passed away. When my dad died just a few years ago I lost not only a parent but my best friend. He committed suicide. When that happened I couldn't handle it and resorted to drugs to ease the pain. On drugs you feel nothing and that's what I wanted to feel at the time. Before then, I was clean and sober for 5 years with a good life and clear of trouble and very responsible. I got very lucky because they wanted to give me a life sentence under the California 3 strikes law. Someone was looking out for
me, as I'll get another chance at freedom May 2007.

I enjoy watching and playing all sports. My favorite baseball team is the San Francisco Giants and my football team is the St. Louis Rams. The Sacramento Kings is my favorite basketball team. I enjoy working out, writing and reading. Though it's hard at times not to be bitter and angry locked in a cell 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, I try to be good to others and to myself. If we're lucky, we'll get to go outside twice a week here. Other than that, we're in the cell. Mentally I consider myself pretty strong but at times it does get lonely for me. I enjoy meeting new people from all cultures and am interested in other people's likes and dislikes. I have no kids and have been married once, 10 years ago. I'll end this now and hope you may find time in your day to write me a letter. Thank you for your time and have a great day!

I am writing in hopes of establishing a pen-pal relationship and enjoying someone’s conversation outside of this mad house I live in. I have been in prison for 12 years, 8 of them in solitary confinement. I love to make people laugh and at the same time laugh right along with them. I am very straightforward and don’t play mean jokes on others. I appreciate life and the good experiences that come along. On another note, I spend some of my time with my hobby, which is drawing. Of course, I study and do research on legal matters. I am 32 years old and keep in shape through daily exercise. I will pull this pen over for now and put it in park, hoping I have triggered someone’s curiosity. Until then, take care and God Bless.

I am a 34-year-old African American from San Diego. My present life feels a million light years removed from the life I once had, but I still feel compelled to share myself with hopes of finding a true friend. I am a chef by trade. I love to cook all kinds of food but the
grill is my favorite. I have a saying, give me a grill, and I'll give you a great meal!

Growing up in San Diego, I played a lot of sports -
football, baseball, basketball and boxing. I was raised by my great grandparents in a house full of uncles and cousins. I have a rather large family but right now my two sisters are my only link to the outside world. I thought I built a bridge when I was free by having a
good job and being the one my family could always rely on. But not a lot of family have crossed that bridge to reach out to me. I know I must accept my situation and learn to bear its short comings, but I am still hopeful. Hopeful to find a friend to talk to. My interests include
chess, writing, exercising and reading. I'm in search of a good person, male or female, to become a friend. I hold no prejudices whatsoever and I look forward to corresponding with sincere, reliable human beings.
Thanks for your time.

I am always looking for ways to better myself as a person. I enjoy drawing, reading and learning new things. It would be nice to meet someone new, share thoughts and trade jokes. I am down to earth and not
bashful. Life is too brief to not experience everything you can. To make a very long story short, I was convicted on a gang-related crime in Los Angeles when I was 16, and have been in Pelican Bay since 1994. I am now 32 years old. I’m trying to get a website started that will attract young people - kids from my culture - so they can read my story and not make the same mistakes I have in my life. I would love to hear from you. Wishing you the best

I would really like to meet someone from another environment or culture or anyone who would like to share some simple conversation. I’m a 45-year-old, single Mexican. I’m 5’7”, 169 lbs, with a medium build,
brown hair, brown eyes and medium complexion. I was born in Waco, Texas, but grew up in San Jose, CA. I’m honest, open-minded, and love all types of people who read the Word of God. I enjoy outdoor sports - fishing,
boating, swimming, hiking, baseball and walks. I’m a non-smoker and work out daily to stay in shape. I’m not a picky person, just a guy who would like some company to be able to share thoughts and feelings.

I’m 30 years old, incarcerated now but expecting parole in 3 years. I’m from Central California and enjoy writing, meeting new people, and making new friends. I have a nice personality and a good sense of humor. I’m a life-long student of history and religion. I especially enjoy studying European history and religious history. I think education, exercise, and self-enrichment are important to a fulfilling life. I’m interested in sharing friendly conversation and good humor with anyone who has the time and desire to make a new friend. I was born in Mexico (Guadalajara Jalisco, to be exact). I came from low-income families back in Mexico. My little brother Cris and I both stayed back with our grandmother while both my parents came across the border illegally to work hard and give us decent lives. (unfortunately not so decent for me).

We always lived in the Los Angeles County Area, East L.A., West L.A., Compton and New South Central Walls.

I’ve always been a bad boy. The bad sheep in the family. Always getting into trouble: ditching school, ditching my communion classes (I’m Catholic). Getting into fights, grabbing girls imappropriately. I was just a problem child. Maybe its because of my separation from my parents when they left us back in Mexico? Whatever the reason may be, I was not very different from many of the guys who’ve ended up in here.

I’m a grown man now, wiser, and (somewhat) educated.

I grew up surrounded by violence so the only thing I’ve ever understood and learned was violence. My father was violent, just angry and violent. I guess because he must have been dealing with so much stress, he became an alcoholic and violent with my mother. I tried to fight him and defend her. I was only 8 or 9 at the time. Were were living in Compton. That was in 1985.

Hi! I’m a 35-year-old man seeking to meet new people and make new friends from around the world, hoping to learn something from them and their culture. I believe in friendships that are sincere and honest. I enjoy sharing ideas and listening to other peoples’ unique stories and experiences. I believe that each individual is unique, gifted and good, despite the ups and downs or even the mistakes we all make in life. I also believe that our mistakes, as well as those of others who around us, can be helpful to us if we learn from them as we strive on in life’s journey. One important thing I’ve learned is to treat others as one wishes to be treated, along with being patient and working hard to be successful in what one really wants to achieve. I enjoy working out as being part of my physical and mental exercises. Other times I like studying, reading and drawing. Feel free to write if you wish to. I’m always looking forward to meeting new friends.

I am a 48-year-old black prisoner in custody for a total of 10 years, presently under the strike law. I’ve been in Pelican Bay for about 7 years. I grew up in the Watts district of Los Angeles. After being
involved in petty crime for years, going in and out of prison, I got a job working in construction as a scaffolder. After a few years of working in construction, I went back to doing petty crime. I was
convicted for armed robbery and received a 40-year sentence, with 80% to be served. Even though I am going to be in prison the next twenty years, I am sure that I could reciprocate a good friendship. I like to watch sports, read a novel now and then, and listen to contemporary jazz. I am looking forward to corresponding with someone, especially with the
thought of establishing a good friendship.

Hello and thank you for taking an interest in my ad. My first name, Jasper, is actually located in the Bible. It is one of the seven stones that was found in the Jordon River of Seven Streams, When God put all
seven together, he saw that they were of remarkable beauty. He decided that if he would consolidate the stones, no man could ever match the many different exquisite colors that he and only he could create. So I
am named as a ‘gemstone’ and the beauty of my heart, honesty and sincerity is unmatched as well. I am currently confined in a California state prison and am serving a life sentence for a crime of robbery. I am
innocent and currently doing very well my appeals. I am black and Puerto Rican. I am a certified paralegal, a high-school graduate, and I’ve received my degree in business communications/management. I am 34 years
of age, 6’ tall, and wish to become acquainted with people of all ages, all walks of life. I have no prejudices and am open for new friendships. I am looking for sincere and honest friendships. I have no problem displaying my life to everyone. I hold no secrets, nor do I harbor any skeletons. In responding to this ad, please express yourself and feel free to ask any questions you like and I would be happy to answer them truthfully. I have no family except for my 13 year old son, whom I stay in touch with and do my best to guide and support in every aspect of his young life. His name is also Jasper. He plays football and he plays
defensive end. I am very proud of him and he is my continuing source of oxygen. It has been hard on him, as well as me. His mother and I are real good friends. Unfortunately, financially, my monies have come to an
end as I fight strongly to prove my innocence. I would rather had spent my monies providing for my son, but his tears and every day inquiries have urged me to fight ferociously, so that he can have his dad home
with him. Well, I am going to close and hope that you don’t harbor any prejudices due to my current situation. I hope to make your acquaintance soon. God bless.

I’m a 56-year-old Mexican man, especially interested in writing and book publishing. I do not practice any religion formally. I believe, as Edgar Cayce did, in the One God for all religions. I’ve begun to practice Zen and Tai Chi for peace of mind. I am serving a life sentence. I’m 5'7", 155 lbs. with black hair, brown eyes and olive skin. I would preferably like to communicate with Mexicans or Native Americans, but people of any race, gender or age who wish to communicate will be most welcome. I’d have a lot in common with a person who knows a lot about writing or who has published a book, but all communications have value. I would love to write to someone who knows about writing books, structuring paragraphs, and publishing because I’m writing a short story about a 16-year-old Chicano growing up in San Jose, CA in 1965. I could use some help with it.

I’m 30 years of age, over 6’2, 226 lbs, solid muscular build. I’m of Afrikan descent with dark brown eyes. I wear a bald head with a goatee mustache neatly lined and trimmed. I’m incarcerated for various charges and am serving a 99 to life sentence, plus 87 years for living what is known as a thug life. Nevertheless stumbling blocks can become stepping stones if we learn from our mistakes, errors, and wrong life choices. Despite my incarceration and the choices that lead to my confinement, I am honest, loyal, intelligent, outgoing and respectful. I love children, a good laugh and the company of positive people. I have a sense of humor, am very energetic, sincere, understanding, open-minded and receptive and willing to explore the unknown and learn things. My hobbies are poetry, writing music and reading. I’m a great
conversationalist and enjoy intellectually stimulating conversation whether it be on the phone or my mail. I study up to 4 hours per day. I study Afrikan history, culture and traditions, theology, world history, political science, scientific socialism, various eastern and European philosophies. I am a Christian and have been serving the Lord Jesus Christ now for some years. I am not looking for a romantic connection, but rather would like to establish a friendship through which I could enjoy some much needed fellowship. I am the only Christian here in my pod (each pod consists of eight cells and usually 8 men) and there is only so much that the men around me will hear of my faith. I am a lifer and am not due to leave isolation any time soon. I am 40 years old and was born in Texas in 1963, though we moved to California when I was 9 years old. I am an avid reader of history, whether it is Christian history, military,
or the history of empires such as the Greek, Roman, British, etc. However, because I must spend more time in studying the Holy Scriptures, I do not indulge in too much secular reading. I love to discuss various topics and try to understand the root causes of things. I am always striving to keep an open mind and at the same time not to become a watered down Christian. I have accepted full responsibility for my sins (crimes) and have asked God to forgive me. So I’m not in denial or hiding anything. I accept my punishment as just, and look forward to learning as much as I can until I fall asleep (die) or the Lord Jesus returns. I love art, all kinds of music, good food, and I like to learn about other cultures and people. I think this is crucial because the Bible says one day we will judge the world (1 Cor. 6:2, 3, 4-6), so I feel we should gain as broad a perspective as we can. I would like to correspond with a friend who is a genuine Christian, so that I could
have someone to share the Word and my friendship with. I think I could learn from them, and also, they could ask me about this other world and find out what it’s truly like to be living in the devil’s playground. I will gladly answer any and all questions, hoping to educate and be educated.

I have a better chance at digging a hole to freedom that getting a parole date out of the Board of Prison Terms. I’m just a normal guy that you’d brush shoulders with at a Dodger’s game rooting for the ‘bleeding blue’. You might think we’re all a bunch of maniacs locked away for the better interest and safety of society, but you’d be surprised how well adjusted we become. I’m getting by the best I can and am looking for someone who can help me with my case … a law student, attorney who’s into pro-bono work, an

I’m a 44 year old Mexican American (Chicano). I’ve been incarcerated since 1980. I’ve been in Pelican Bay SHU since the day it opened in December 1989. I’m originally from Southern California and grew up in an area known as Frogtown. I was arrested in 1980 for supposedly being the accomplice in a murder/robbery that took place in a convenience store. It was caught on video tape and mine was the first trial in California that used video tape as evidence. In 1982, I was convicted and sentenced to life without parole and sent up to Old Folsom Prison. I went from Old Folsom to San Quentin, getting out of there at the end of ’87 to be transferred to New Folsom until early ’89. Then to Corcoran SHU and then to Pelican Bay when it opened. Since I’ve been in prison, I’ve lost touch with all family members and friends from my youthful days. My days in the SHU are spent like most other convicts - get up early, exercise, draw a little bit, play chess, and keep up with current events. My number one vice is watching novelas (Spanish soap operas). I am looking for someone to write to, in the hopes of opening up a communication line to the outside world and to having a little companionship and friendship. I don’t have much to offer anyone other than emotional support, and a loyal friendship. I’m open to all religious beliefs as long as its not used to try and convert me. First I’d like to start by saying thank you for taking a little time out of your busy day to visit this website and in particular for reading my introduction. I’m 33 years old, 6 feet tall and weigh 180 lbs. I have brown eyes and black hair. I know this may sound just like every other drab introduction letter, but I’ve never written an introduction like this to a pen-pal site before, so I ask that you bear with me as I get through this. I’ve been incarcerated for awhile now and don’t write much. But I do write to my family. I’m pretty much an outgoing person who takes a chance every now and then and enjoys meeting people. Unfortunately, being in jail you don’t get to meet a lot of people, so when I heard this website being advertised over the radio, I became both happy and excited about having the chance to meet you, and to learn about what your likes and dislikes are. Since I’ve been here, I’ve learned a lot about myself: for instance, I’ve found that I like art and literature amongst other things. In fact, I’ve found that I enjoy learning about almost everything. Just recently I’ve been given a chance to take some college courses, and of course I had to jump at the chance of getting a higher education. I couldn’t do it without financial help from my family. And, speaking of family, I come from a good-sized one. I have one sister and 4 brothers of which I’m the youngest and of course most handsome (!) I would really like to meet someone with an open mind and who doesn’t mind writing in order to make a new friend. If you find yourself a little curious then go ahead and send me a few lines. I promise to answer your letter. Think of it this way: at the very least you’ll come out of this experience with a new friend. Once again, thank you for taking the time to read this letter. I can’t wait to hear from you.

My first love is my son, my second is cars. I’m pretty good with my hands, so I’m always working on something. I also enjoy sports, music and learning about different cultures. I guess you could say I enjoy a little bit of everything and not too much of anything. I’m interested in getting to know people from other places, exchanging stories and sharing a few thoughts and opinions, along with some good laughs and over all good conversation. A friend with a good head on their shoulders, who knows how to laugh and can hold their own in a conversation is what I’m looking for. destructive state of mind. Not knowing what I wanted in life, I was just a body who was there. To make a long story short, I came back 4 months later to do a violation of 30 days. Unfortunately, something happened in prison and I ended up with 9 years for assault with a weapon. Most of
that time was spent in the hole (S.H.U.). I’m in the cell 23 hours a day with no telephone calls or any contact with loved ones. It’s a tough situation to be in, but as a man, one must accept the consequences of one’s own actions. I can now say that I have a whole different way of thinking and of looking at life. I’m ready to get out. Know it ain’t gonna be easy, I have no idea what awaits for me, I’ve been expecting the worst and hoping for the best. So if you are someone who wants to know more of me and get to know the person that I am please don’t hold back. Feel free. I am a good person with lots of smiles to offer.

Being in lockdown 23 hours a day, it would be nice to get mail. I’m looking for friendship and someone to write. I’m 5’10”, 190 lbs, got a good build and I don’t smoke. I enjoy going out. I’m easy-going and can adjust to anything very spontaneously. I’m from Orange County.

Curtis Lee Henderson Sr

I am 36 years of age. I was born and raised in Fresno, California and as a young man, I allowed myself to fall into the bosom of negativity, which landed me in this situation. As for my personal description, I am 5’8” tall, 198 lbs, black long hair and brown eyes. I write this with pure and positive meanings in hopes that something productive is formed from this. I’m looking for a pen pal who will give a man such as me a chance to come into their world through correspondence. I am very outspoken, as well as educated and sophisticated. In my leisure time I enjoy reading and keeping fit. I believe I’m going that extra step in
life by putting forth a serious effort to overcome, as well as totally defeat, all obstacles designed to impede progress. The pen pal who responds must have intentions directed in the benefit of us growing constructively as people communicating on prosperous levels, understanding and accepting each other for who we are. Well, if I’ve captured your attention in any way, then don’t hesitate to pick up that pen and paper and divulge to me your thoughts.

My name is Jaime, but they call me ‘Puppet. ‘ I’m from Los Angeles. I’m also a 29-year-old handsome Mexican paying my debt to Society. I’m going to be straight out about why I’m sending my 411. Well, I’m sending my info to see if I get lucky with a pen pal from the outside world. I just want a nice pen pal that might be interested to correspond with me. I’m real tired of being lonely because since 1997 I have been paying my debt to society and I just don’t have the privilege to keep in touch with people from the outside. In fact, I’m all alone. “Yikes”! But since my day is getting closer to leave this institution, I want to start a pen-pal relationship with someone special from the outside world. I just want a pen pal with a nice heart and a good sense of humor that’s willing to share some tips with me about how life is in the outside. In
fact, all different types of tips, that’s what I really need so I could prepare myself better about how to face society. I been down awhile so if my writing skills are a little rusty I apologize. Well here goes the rest of my info but with more details. I’m 5’7”, 155 lbs. I got brown eyes, black hair and half of my body is full of tattoos. I also got a good sense of humor, plus I’m sincere. I been honest so if somebody is interested in writing, I’m not going to give you any jail talk or drama, I’m going to keep it real. Because I’m a real man. I’m going to appreciate if a nice human being writes to this handsome Mexican, so we could start a beautiful pen pal friendship. I just hope that somebody out there is willing to give me an opportunity to be their pen pal and to share our thoughts. Muchas gracias.

Travell D. Brown

I’m a 32-year-old mature black man, born under the zodiac sign of Aries, April 2, 1972. I was born in a small part of the Bay area known as Richmond, and raised in an even smaller area known as (NARF) North Richmond. I’m the very very very proud father of a beautiful young Queen, name Ms. Kiyanni Jasmine Brown (that’s my diamond), also born April 2, 1999. I stand 5’6”, I weigh in at 185 lbs, I’m physically fit, well groomed, very outgoing, and, most important, I am house broken. As we both know from my return address, my life is restricted by bars of steel, walls of concrete and cold lonely nights. Please do not
misunderstand my situation, I'm not here for some sick, twisted, deranged, psychopathic reason. My situation derives from my infatuation with fast money and the lifestyle it allowed me and my family to live. I was caught with large amounts of heroin, coke and pot (I’m not a user of hard drugs, but I love pot). I’ve been locked up since Oct 3rd, 1999. At any rate, I wasn’t totally illegal, I found time to attend community college, known as ContraCost College, studying Business Management, Business Administration and Accounting. That’s why I say don’t allow my situation to cloud your judgement about Travell. There’s a lot more to him, trust me. I love to write letters, poetry and music. Well, I’ve opened a tiny, tiny bit about myself, so I’d enjoy if you’d allow Travell a peek at your likes and dislikes. What’s your enjoyments? What you do in your spare time? I’m just trying to make your acquaintance and hopefully become your friend.

Richard Shires Winson

Hi. My friends call me Rick and I’m originally from Stonehorn, Massachussets. Though I’m serving two (consecutive) life sentences, I’m making the best of it. It’s all about maintaining a good attitude, and a positive outlook towards life.

I’m interested in long-term correspondences/friendships, with people who are willing to share from their own windows on life. I do appreciate the time anyone takes to write, and although the mail is sometimes very slow, I always answer.

I am an artist, and spend many hours each day on my art work. I enjoy drawing, reading, writing, music and exercise; as well as humor. I miss many of the things that I no longer see or have.

I’ve learned how to appreciate the fine things in life that I used to take for granted. I would really enjoy hearing from anyone out there who is seeking a true and genuine friendship. Photos would be most welcome, however Polaroids are not allowed.

The qualities that I look for in a friendship are honesty, intelligence and a great sense of humor. Any time you spend with me will be treasured, and any correspondence I receive will surely brighten my day.

And on that note, I will close. If you’re interested in getting to know me better, put your pen to paper and introduce yourself. I look forward to meeting you!

Jaime Aleman

I’m a 39-year-old Latino artist. I heard about the Pen Pal Program and think it is a great idea, cause some of us here don’t have any mail coming. We don’t have access to the internet or the means to put up ads on a pay site. It’s rough to see the mailman just zoom by without stopping at the cell door. I’ve been down for 20 years with 8 left to go. As you many have heard, time moves very slow here at PBSP. I’ve been in isolation since 1987. The longer I stay here, the fewer relatives and friends are left behind.

I need to keep in touch with society. It’s the best way to remain sane. Without outside communication, people here can go insane. And they do. There must be someone out there who would like to communicate with
someone like me, but don’t know how and where to reach us.

I’m taking this time to reach out and share some conversation with sincere, open-minded individuals. As you can see I’m tucked away at the infamous Pelican Bay, but don’t let that discourage you. Be strong of
heart. I may be physically imprisoned, but with my pen as my vehicle, I’m mentally and spiritually free.

Before, I found myself at the Bay Resort, I lived in sunny Los Angeles. I miss all those sunny days, as I’ve been in the system now for a little while. But don’t panic, I’m not in the newspapers, and not that mean
desperado that robbed banks and they never found the cash.

I’m seeking to meet someone I can kick it with and exchange ideas, someone who could help me experience the world through his/her eyes and heart. But most importantly, a friend. Seeing how true friends are in short supply these days and I would give a loyal friend the respect and consideration he/she deserves. So, if you feel up to the task, spill a little ink my way, and I’ll be sure to bounce back your way.

Here’s a little about myself: I’m 25 years old, single, born and raised in the Bay Area. I do have a release date in May 2006. I’ve been in prison since the year of 2000. I originally came to prison for a charge
of burglary, but picked up a little more time during my incarceration. I like to draw from time to time. I am very goal oriented, and have a positive attitude. I consider myself to be intelligent, open minded, easy to talk to. I am overall a good person, I just unfortunately
happened to come to prison.

I believe it would be a positive experience for both me and someone willing to correspond. I like music of all types, I’m a very interesting person once you get to know me. Now if I have ignited a level of interest in you, go for it and send me a letter. Your efforts in writing me will be much appreciated.

I am a Mexican, born and raised in South Central Los Angeles. I am 32 years old, born on July 1, 1972. I am in prison on two counts of attempted murder. The circumstances are not complex, I am very open. I
grew up in a gang-infested neighborhood. I spent most of my teenage years in the California Youth Authority, and all of my adult life in California State Prison.

In Prison I received my C.E.D. and I am currently working on my Associates Degree in Sociology/Psychology. I have two semesters left. My
passion is for Mexican history. I speak, read and write in the Mexican language of Nahuatl. I hope that anyone who writes does speak, read and write in Nahuatl. Every now and then I encounter a fellow Nahuatlahton, it’s rare though.

That’s basically it. I wish to encounter fellow Nahuatlahtos to discuss the readings of our ancestors. Thank you very much for your time and consideration.

I’m a 31-year-old black man, who grew up with Mexican people. I learned to speak and understand Spanish through those friendships. I was arrested and convicted at the age of 20, and have been in prison ever since. I grew up in Compton, California where most young people aspired to be gang members and drug dealers. In any case, I chose the Mexican
gangs at the age of 12. I was convicted of car jacking.

Fortunately for me, I got a second chance to succeed in the world. I’m looking forward to paroling in early 2006 but I’m apprehensive about seeing the new world. My mind is no longer the 20 year old mind back 11
years ago, but I don’t know what to expect. I’m looking for a friend to help me reinstate myself with the new world. All and any help is appreciated and welcomed. I enjoy writing and playing chess. I love
music but can’t sing. Have learned many life lessons in prison but the most important one is, prison isn’t the place to be! I hope something sparked an interest while reading this, please don’t be shy to respond.

I am a 31-year-old Chicano from Salinas, C.A. I’m housed here in Pelican Bay’s SHU and spend most of my time exercising, reading (a lot), studying and keeping a positive state of mind. When I was out, I worked for a beverage

I’m 36 years old, from Los Angeles, though presently incarcerated at one of California’s finest resorts: Pelican Bay State Prison, SHU, where I’ve been confined for the past 15 years. I’m seeking a Pen Pal with hopes of building a strong friendship.

To give a brief description of myself, I’m clean cut with black hair, brown eyes, and a mustache. I work out religiously, so I'm in tip-top shape. I'm an artist and I like to draw in my spare time, but that’s just one of my many talents. I’m currently a college student (via
correspondence courses) working toward an Associates degree. My goal is to acquire a Bachelor’s degree in business. I tend to spend my time wisely in my efforts to make the best of the situation in a positive way in order to prepare myself for the future and my eventual release to the competetive world of a free society. I have never been one to let life pass me by despite my many years in solitary confinement (SHU), always engaging in ways that will help me become a better man. But it’s patient people on the outside who help us grow We come from a small world and live in an even smaller one We need to see a bigger picture.

If you’re interested in sharing life experiences and perhaps providing me with a window to the outside, don’t hesitate to write.

I have been in prison since May 1997, ‘ACCUSED’ of shooting two guys. A gang-related attempted murder. I pled ‘self defense’ no contest to assault with a firearm and shooting at an occupied motor vehicle. I was sentenced to thirteen years in prison. My release date is July 4, 2009. I have been slammed down in the SHU on fraudulent validation charges. If you choose to write me, I would like to share my court transcripts with
you, so you know for a ‘fact why I’m in prison, so you can see I’m a man who made a bad decision in life, finishing the rest of my time and progressively moving forward. I also have pictures of myself if you’d like them. I have no children but love all children and would love to have some one day. I am single, never been married. I enjoy lifting weights, boxing, martial arts, BBQ’s, fishing, camping, travelling, and animals. I am not some desperate dude up in here with a sad story, or prison house drag looking for money or free handouts. Yes, I've made some real big mistakes in my life and I plan on changing that with the help of a drug program and by helping others who have the same issues that I do. I also know that it can be done, there are thing in life that I want: a house, happiness and God in my life. I like reading books that can help me move forward in my life, books that will teach me things to help myself and others. I did finish high school and spent time in the army.

I'm tired of making the same mistakes over and over because of pride. At this point in my life, I'm all ears and eyes. I know there's a better way of life. I am a 31-year old Mexican currently enrolled at the University of Pelican Bay. My passions are in the Arts and I enjoy drawing. I find it occupies my mind and is therapeutic (not that I need therapy).

I speak English as well as Spanish, and am currently learning the Italian language (Sto imparando l'Italiano). I'm giving it about 5 years then depending on how much I've picked up, I'd like to move on to maybe French. I love the sound of a foreign language.

I also dabble a little in law practice. I find that the law is very complicated and it stimulates the brain. It's almost like trying decipher Egyptian or Mayan hieroglyphics, well not quite, but you get the picture.

As for home, well I'm pretty far away from there, which is in Cathedral City in the Palm Springs area. I've been away since 1995, so I guess it's not home anymore. I've learned that in my situation home is where you are at.

How much insight and depth is required to ascertain that even the most treasured diamond was once nothing more than a lump of coal? Not much - it's just a fact! So what's that got to do with me? I'm not really sure since I'm not quite a lump of coal, and I'm not quite a precious stone. I'm working on it though!

You probably don't want to hear about my accomplishments huh? Well my accomplishments may not be in the running for any Nobel Prize, but to my
daughter I'm the undisputed Daddy Laureate! (She's probably biased in my favor.) Anyway & via pen, paper, and time, I intend to extend sincere friendship to anyone willing to break these spiritual walls of
uncertainty to discover that support, grace, and compassion can indeed abide in all and are needed by all. Fostering is the key & I ask nothing that I wouldn't be willing to reciprocate. Let's talk. You'll probably

As I begin this letter I hope you are surrounded by the love of our good Lord. It is also my hope that once you read these few words that I've put together, that you might take a moment to write.

My name is Richard Marquez and I am an identical twin. My twin brother's name is Nick Marquez #V-25975. He is my cellie here at Pelican Bay Prison, we're both 30 years old (Nov).

Growing up I made some very poor decisions. I came from a rough part of Southern California and like many young people, I was easily moved by the thought of fast money and was fooled into thinking my friends meant more to me than family. I know now I was wrong. I'm not saying friendships are wrong, on the contrary I value a true friendship.

My life has had its share of both good times and bad times. My little brother Sean was killed in 1992 and my parents passed away in June of 2003. Those moments have pulled at my heart, but I'm grateful for the time we had together. From their loss, I've also learned to enjoy today.

Dr. M. L. King Jr. said, the ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands on moments of comfort and convenience but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy. So I let those words remind me to
make the best of this situation. May God bless you.

To those who read this happiness unto you! I'm a Mexican man, 45 years of age. Born June 27, 1959 (Cancer) in Norwalk, Ca. I have brown eyes
and black hair. I'm looking to share conversation and develop new friendships. I enjoy most outdoor activities although I've not participated in many. I read/write poetry and draw somewhat. I seek
academic advancement and diligently work towards improving myself both intellectually and physically. I'm patient, non-judgmental, enjoy humor and am humorous myself.. I like to make people smile and enjoy a good laugh. I listen well and will give positive feedback. I'm open to all questions and will respond truthfully to all correspondence.

I've been in prison three decades, charged with second degree murder; although not convicted of the actual crime, I was convicted of assisting in its culmination.

If my words have aroused your curiosity, I'd like to hear from you. I will not allow the confinement of my physical world lock away my spirit.

I'm a 45-year-old African American married to the same woman from 1982 to present. I have four sons, one in elementary school, one in middle school, one in high school and my eldest in his third year of college.

I graduated from high school in 1977. After graduation, I entered the U.S. Army as a 36 Kilo, i.e. radio and Switchboard Operator. I spent one year overseas in South Korea (Feb 1978 until February 1979). After three years of service, I was to return to civilian life with an honorable discharge. I discharged in 1980.

Since my release from the military in 1980, I've spent my time working jobs 8 to 10 hours a day, five sometimes six days a week, trying to provide for my family up until the very day I was arrested (summer of
1999) and lost my freedom. This is my first time in prison and I'm dealing with it the best I can. I enjoy reading, which is how I spend at least 12 hours a day, seven days a week. My preferred reading materials
are non-fiction books, biographies and magazines such as The New Yorker, Smithsonian, Newsweek and Time magazine, when I can acquire them.

I'm willing to correspond with anyone regardless of ethnicity or religious background. I will respond to all letters within a week of my receiving them. I'm looking forward to hearing from you.

Good day to you and those around you. Hopefully life is treating you and yours well.

I am writing you in hopes of finding a pen pal. I've been cut off from the world for a few years now and just looking for some friendly conversation with anyone who wishes to share. I have many likes and
interests from sports, different kinds of music, books, movies and appreciating different cultures. It would be very grateful if you would consider me for I'm a good-hearted individual stuck in this man-made hell.

I am currently housed in the SHU under an indeterminate status. Perhaps you already know the way we have to live here - no contact with another
human being for 24 hours a day. But no matter what, many of us here strive for education, and educate ourselves as much as possible. I mainly try and get my hands on books that help me understand different
aspects of life and the meaning of different cultures because, through it all, I find all human beings to have much in common, disregarding color and race. I disregard these two things because an individual
becomes himself from what he is able to understand and whether he accepts it or not, and what he chooses to do is based on the knowledge he acquires.

In reading, I try to stick to non-fiction, keeping with an
open mind, but here and there I'll read a novel. I have also been trying to learn about the law to know my rights, since much of the time many of us end up being convicted mainly because we have no knowledge to be able to defend ourselves according to the law. Especially in these times, many of our lives are taken like a game to the system. I also spend some
of my time drawing, throughout my years doing time I've got pretty good at it. I try to draw a little bit of everything, just being creative.

I am 29 years old in my thirteenth year of incarceration. You might say I am outgoing and enjoy life & even behind these walls. We all have a life to live and I'm just living mine. I can't sit here and say I'm lonely, but the opportunities to meet new faces from beyond these walls is non-existent. I love to hear about others and what their life is about. The places you go and the things you do are fascinating to me.
It's a change of pace.

Over the years, the friends I've had have gone their separate ways but one doesn't forget a real friend. I just understand that their lives and responsibilities continue and if it's meant to be we shall meet again,
because I am here for as long as these concrete walls continue to stand. So I write these thoughts in hopes to meet a friend to share a day, a week, a year, for as long as you can keep up. I am here.

My interests are many as any young man's would be. I spend my days exercising, reading and drawing, trying to expand myself mentally, physically and spiritually. I grew up in sunny San Diego, the eldest of three brothers. And even though I am incarcerated, I am hopeful for the future.

I wonder if there's a friend out there that wants to share their thoughts with me. Until then, many thanks to all those who browse this site. Nobody wants to be alone and we are no different. We have just made mistakes and made poor decisions, but I believe I still have good to give because my heart is good, it just took a while to realize it.

If you're hitting on this web site, you've found another inmate in need of company and though yes it may seem common given the predicament I'm in, you'll see a solid guy who'll give you lots of conversation that'll
help us both grow to know each other. I'm funny, sincere and most of all will be very truthful with you in all things. I'll be glad to answer any questions you have.

I'm out of Fresno, California, and am Mexican American. My hobbies include drawing, reading and some studying. I am open to exchanging pictures, letters, maybe even in time, visits. I will answer all letters as soon as I receive them.
